Re: Kroger opening distribution center in Maryland

Online or brick and mortar, the PA part is what's interesting in terms of where they want to go next and whether it would be H-T or some other banner. H-T is odd, they seem to be investing in DC despite small market shares and stores that rarely seem very busy---there's one in DC that fills up duri...

Re: Kroger opening distribution center in Maryland

Digging deeper, they said last year these warehouses would also serve brick and mortar stores. There must be a conventional palletized distribution component in addition to the automated side.

Kroger opening distribution center in Maryland

https://www.bizjournals.com/baltimore/news/2020/01/23/kroger-to-open-high-tech-fulfillment-center-in.html Looks like Kroger will be building an Ocado automated warehouse in Frederick, MD. My question is, will this warehouse service the existing Harris Teeter stores here in Maryland, or be a complete...

Kroger and Walgreens formed a buying pool

Looks like Kroger and Walgreens are combining their purchasing. Kroger will also start producing private label products for Walgreens. Other companies are invited to join this purchasing group as well. I'm wondering if the feds might start taking a look at stuff like this as anti-competetive trade. ...

Re: UNFI Makes Deals for 13 Shoppers Stores; 4 More to Close

The locations, esp. in the DC area are a very poor fit for Publix. Other than the store near White Flint, they really have no locations in areas that would work for Publix and even that location is away from the areas where Publix's demographic lives.. Pharmacies are no longer the profit centers th...

Re: Two Harris Teeters in Charlotte closing (one temporary, one permanent)

The space to the left is not a parking garage. It looks like it’s a canopy for their Parcel Pick Up area. Judging by interior pictures of the store, it looks as if the store itself is only one story (with maybe a second level for Employee Breakroom/Manager’s Office) but the Facade gives off the imp...

UNFI Makes Deals for 13 Shoppers Stores; 4 More to Close

TLDR: Lidl, Compare Foods, and a local operator called McKay is buying some Shopper's stores.

Re: Two Harris Teeters in Charlotte closing (one temporary, one permanent)

2201 W T Harris Boulevard is odd looking for a retail store. From the outside you would think it's just a Harris Teeter corporate office, and not an actual supermarket. Most stores will have some big facade that's easily identifiable, and draws people in.

Re: Child Labor & Employee Shortages at Grocery Stores

Grocery stores can't compete on wages in a tight labor market. The recession is over, and working adults (myself included) are able to get better pay and work)life balance elsewhere. Grocery has such tight margins that they can't afford to raise wages. Decades of racing to the bottom is finally biti...

Re: Fred Meyer and Harris Teeter Kroger phones?

Harris Teeter is on Kroger's cash registers and that is really it. They are still on their old systems for private label (even redesigning the old private label as we speak into designs that are NOT Kroger designs...), shelf tags, merchandising, perimeter, ads, and basically everything else. Some o...
