Re: The present and future of Randalls
The closing Austin store on Research Boulevard doesn’t look like it’ll make it all the way to the middle of February. Bargain hunters have already snatched up almost all the store’s initial inventory … probably 90 percent as of today. Most of what’s left is crap that had been sitting around the DC o...

Re: The present and future of Randalls
Another Randalls is going bye-bye. This time it’s the one at Research and Braker in Austin. The store-closing sale started this week and, according to employees, will wrap up by the middle of February. This store opened in 1996 and was a Randalls original build, unlike many of their other Austin sto...

Re: Fred Meyer - No Hot Deli?
Why throw it out? Package leftovers and put them in the cool case. Randalls does this with fried chicken, etc. If kept cold, they can leave it in the case another day or two. Even at half off it’s better than just tossing it.

Re: Albertsons 100% self-checkout pilot program at two locations
Stores are going to have to have at least 1 or 2 regular ones open. I was at a Kroger in the Oak Lawn neighborhood in Dallas recently. They have gone 100% self checkout. The younger people seemed to be doing relatively well but the older folks were really struggling. They were repeatedly calling the...

Re: Lack Of Air Conditioning At Stores
This is happening here in Texas too. A friend and I saw Top Gun in a mall movie theater a couple weekends ago and by the end we were sticking to the leather recliners. The rest of the mall was even worse. We went into one store and asked the clerk what was up. She said it had been like for a few wee...

Re: The present and future of Randalls
The Sugar Land Randalls closed for good over the weekend. Down to just 15 stores in the Houston area now, according to this blogger. https://houstonhistoricretail.com/2022/06/03/last-look-at-this-randalls-as-sugar-land-location-closes-this-saturday/ Any guesses on which store is next? Which ones hav...

Re: Safeway NorCal Remodels and New Stores
Wait … some divisions are still doing $5 Friday?!? I thought that was dead! Randalls stopped doing it when COVID hit 2 years ago. I figured they’d bring it back eventually, but … nope. Wonder why. They could use all the help they can get and $5 Friday brings extra foot traffic.

Re: H-E-B to enter DFW market proper with Plano, Frisco stores
Keep in mind the governor of Texas for more than a week was ordering detailed inspections of any truck from Mexico crossing into the state due to immigration concerns. These were done after trucks had already cleared customs. So two inspections (federal and state) instead of one. (Even tho the Texas...

Re: H-E-B to enter DFW market proper with Plano, Frisco stores
Still curious what the plans are for the old Albertsons in the Red Bird area. I’m guess Joe V’s or Mi Tienda. I think putting in a “regular” H‑E‑B in a spot that small would cause an uproar, with people shouting about the disparities (features vs lack of features) between the new stores and this sto...

Re: Albertsons to reopen former Minyard/Fiesta in Irving
Total remodel value is $2.6 million, according to that DMN story. The city is offering a $300,000 grant towards those costs, plus rebates over time on sales taxes and property taxes. I’ll be interested to see what $2.6 million can do for that sad space. At least part of that money is earmarked for p...
