Re: ALDI to add 70 new stores by next year
Does Aldi not have self checkout? I think I saw one with it (but it was not open when I was in the store as I explicitly remember going to the cashier)... Maybe not. Circling back to this comment from a couple years ago, Aldi is now evidently going all-in on self-checkout, at least in the Midwest. ...

Re: "Farm & fleet" stores
I'm most familiar with Fleet Farm. For decades, it was a family operation (hence the Mills formerly in the title), but was sold to private equity in the last decade. Although it's a decent operation, it has kind of a "jack of all trades, master of none" feel to it. The stores are like a ma...

Re: Natural Grocers -1.99 dozen eggs
The lowest price I could find in northern Minnesota for a dozen eggs yesterday was $4.99 at Aldi for the standard large white. They posted a sign in corporate typeface apologizing for the high price and noting that the reason is due to market forces beyond Aldi's control. They were well-stocked with...

Re: Lowe's Combats Theft With Blockchain & RFID
Menards product mix is a little different than Lowes and Home Depot. Kind of feels disjointed and like they are selling stuff they probably don't sell much of for some reason (some of them seem to have a few aisles of random groceries like canned foods that don't look to move well, not sure if that...

Re: Lowe's Combats Theft With Blockchain & RFID
They really just serve together as a duopoly that exists to keep prices sky high on home improvement products and squash any potential competitors. If a real third competitor could get established they would be forced to cut their prices dramatically. Their pricing is why Menards runs circles aroun...

Re: Big Lots
Is it normal for Big Lots to have their planograms visible for all to see? Because that's what my local store (which closed in 2020) always did during the decade it was open. Seriously, printouts of the store's planograms would either be in binders sitting on the shelves next to product or loose-lea...

Re: Target- Grocery Items- Quantity Required for Sale Pricing
The common denominator from what I've seen is that the products being subject to this pricing are center store name brands from the big conglomerates - specifically, in my case, General Mills, Kellogg's, and Kraft Heinz. Never any private labels. Target seems to fit in line with this pattern? Beside...

Re: Target- Grocery Items- Quantity Required for Sale Pricing
This is not typical for grocery aside from very category specific sales (like soda or chips) but even those sales will usually advertise it like "1.99 each when you buy 3" as opposed to "3 for 5.97 or (in microscopic print) 2.99 each." I've seen it in more than just soda and chi...

Re: Target- Grocery Items- Quantity Required for Sale Pricing
I've been seeing more and more grocery chains here in Minnesota running these sorts of sales. Hy-Vee, Coborn's, and Super One are, don't know if Cub is, yet. Dollar General does this as well.

Re: Walmart observations
24 states have or had a "Pittsburg," many of them named after Pittsburgh during the time when federal spelling guidelines omitted the H. Only the Pittsburgs in California and Kansas have a Walmart.storewanderer wrote: ↑October 24th, 2022, 10:13 pmHope they got the right store and didn't mean Pittsburg (yes it is spelled that way), CA.
