Re: Food shortages?

Was in Target and Hannaford earlier today and both of them were quite thinly stocked in pasta and boxed cookies of all things. Pasta was particularly bad; took the last five boxes of rigatoni Target had and Hannaford was almost bare as well. Brand-wise it didn't matter; there was pretty not much of...

Re: Hy-Vee: The "Haggen" of the Midwest?

Hy-Vee is selling land in the Twin Cities metro they had acquired to build five new stores. They say these sites are now too small to accommodate the size of store they would want to build, but, if you read between the lines, there's an implication that they are giving up on any additional expansion...

Their standard for new builds, either standalone or in a strip mall, is around 18,000 sq. ft total.

Re: 2022: 11 Kmart, 29 Sears stores remain...

Take a look on Google Maps of the Jersey City, NJ Sears. The inside of the store if you focus on the flooring and the fixtures doesn't look too bad. But in recent photos if you start to look at the ceiling you start to notice some things. Missing tiles, stained tiles, tarps, all over the place. In ...

The Denver metro was the very first market outside of Minnesota that Target entered. The first Targets there opened in 1966.

Hy-Vee Creates Retail Security Team, Placing Officers in Stores Across Footprint

https://www.dakotanewsnow.com/2021/12/29/hy-vee-adding-security-teams-stores/ The press release this news is written from is kind of vague as to the job description of these new security officers, but, with food prices having risen so much, I'm guessing shrink has risen as well and this is a way to ...

Re: Hy-Vee Expands Southeast

How is Hy-Vee failing the Twin Cities? I had believed they were doing quite good. According to the consultant quoted in the article, "[Hy-Vee] never reached the size and scale in the state of Minnesota that they had hoped for because they just weren't able to compete head-to-head with a high v...

Re: Major retailers not running Black Friday ad circulars in newspapers

The Oregonian newspaper charged 7.99 for the Thanksgiving edition. We bought it last year and it had very few ads. We didn't buy it this year. At 7.99, they are killing themselves off. I read reports of other newspapers owned by Advance Publications charging $7.99 for the Thanksgiving edition despi...
