Re: Save Mart phasing out Market Essentials

Topco has been pushing to get stores to carry the stock Topco labels (Simply Done, Full Circle, Top Care) on certain categories for a while now, I think between low volume on Top Care/Full Circle and just trying to get a lower cost on the categories where Simply Done is, is where they are going wit...

Re: Chickfila "reopening guide"

I haven't been to In N Out in a long time. It is just too crowded. They will open a new location in Reno soon, I hope that takes some of the heat off of the existing locations because they are just too crowded. One of the biggest issues I've seen with In N Out is they seem to get so many large orde...

Re: What exactly happened with Kroger?

Kroger fell into the latter group back in the 70s and 80s and they were lucky in some places like Atlanta where their competition imploded or Nashville where their main competition (HG Hill) stopped investing in their grocery business. As you have explained, Kroger has done well in certain areas du...

Re: AWG to establish St. Cloud, MN Upper Midwest Division; Coborn's to switch to AWG

And in order for AWG to establish an upper midwest division they are going to need more stores to supply than just Coborn's... I suppose they could pick some stores off from other suppliers too. Every independent/regional I went to back in MN was supplied by Supervalu except a couple corporate Nash...

Re: Is 2021 finally the end for Sears/Kmart?

It simply could be they're just not maintaining the store locator anymore which wouldn't be surprising because they gave up a long time ago even appearing to be a viable going concern. They're not even going through the motions anymore. Maybe you can't get blood from a stone but Eddie is sure tryin...

Re: Metro Stores In Quebec To Allow Reusable Containers

Kind of off topic, but in 2000, Metro was up for sale. Albertsons and Kroger actually had their eyes on them back then. Metro was eventually taken off the sale block as they couldn't find a buyer.

Re: Safeway (Canada) and Sobeys try dimming lights

They have closed too many stores to "fix" it. Many stores that performed very well but they just decided to close and convert to FreshCo for some reason. Loblaw is cleaning up in the mean time and will keep cleaning up. FreshCo reminds me of Smart & Final Extra in a way. Both have dow...

Re: Safeway (Canada) and Sobeys try dimming lights

In the 90s, I once went to a Petrini's or Lunardi's that did not have fluorescent lights on the ceiling. It was very dark and the store had a green glow from ambient lighting. I found it to be very soothing. Petrini's was owned by Quebec-based Provigo Corp in the 1990's. Sobeys actually owned a 25%...

Re: Kroger closing/closed 5 Arkansas Stores

I think the problem with these private label only stores is at the end of the day they just don't move much $$$ of merchandise. The prices are too low, value conscious customers are less likely to impulse buy, so you have to be very tight on labor and accept you will have a large number of location...

Re: DFW Tom Thumb/Albertsons/MArket Street Observations

Recent activity update on the Albertsons front: Over the past year or so, multiple legacy Albertsons locations which were badly in need of remodel finally received some attention, including locations at Broadway Blvd/Rowlett Rd in Garland, Montley Dr/Town East Blvd in Mesquite, and 183/Bedford Rd i...
