Re: ShopRite to Exit Albany

So basically all that happened is that Golub bought out a competitor-nothing more and nothing less.

Re: 'Target CEO claims customers are saying ‘a big thank you’ for locking up merchandise'

And knowing how notoriously understaffed Target stores are, it must be a VERY long wait. Comments like the CEO's just show the disconnect between what is happening in the executive suite vs. the sales floor.

Re: ShopRite to Exit Albany

I read way too many comments on Reddit to find that people seem to think C&S (under the Grand Union name) or Weis have purchased the stores -- and maybe one went to Price Chopper, they say. I think C&S is a likely candidate, Weis is possible I suppose but I think fairly unlikely (why would ...

Re: ShopRite to Exit Albany

Although, when the first one opened in Niskayuna, people were coming from all over the area (even out towards Amsterdam, beyond the main Albany/Schenectady area) to shop there. Either those who remembered the old stores, or people who had moved from other areas, perhaps. Yes they did come from the ...

Re: ShopRite to Exit Albany

Only having 5 stores in the Albany area is not exactly going to give you the market penetration you need to grab share from other chains. It made them a niche player at best. Golub has five stores in Albany and three in Schenectady alone (four if you count the Scotia store out on NYS Route 50.) That...

Re: ShopRite to Exit Albany

Surprised the article didn't mention this is their second retreat from the area after leaving in the late '80's. Difference this time is the stores are owned by Wakefern and not by one of their members.

Re: Walmart Says Weight Loss Drugs Reducing Food Sales

I guess it's not a huge seller so it's not produced in as large a quantity as the diet version. Can't find it in 2-liter bottles either. Price Chopper had it but over the summer it dried up there store by store locally. Only other place is Shop-Rite and the closest one to me is about a 50 mile round...

Re: Target Self Checkout: Now 10 items or less

If they adequately staff regular registers (I know but one can dream) this isn't a bad thing. Earlier this year at Target, I had a cartful and there were no manned registers open so I was forced to use self checkout. It went as well as can be expected for someone whose only experience with the conce...

Re: Walmart Says Weight Loss Drugs Reducing Food Sales

They need to look at their operations before they go and blame the customer for their shortcomings. After vowing to never set foot in one again, I had a less than stellar checkout experience at a local Wally World. Approximately 5 of 28 registers open and all self checkouts closed on one side of the...

Re: TransformCo (Sears/Kmart) 2023: Finally the end?

GE never showed up at all and rescheduled after I waited 12 hours and multiple phone calls. What a contrast to a kitchen range I purchased a few years ago at a local appliance store. They are one of the largest independent appliance and furniture retailers in this part of NYS and I've purchased fro...
