Re: Walmart observations

I have a friend who does a great deal of shopping at Target as there is no Walmart near his house. I have the good fortune of having both located across the road from each other which makes for very easy comparison shopping and considering my past comments here, it's pretty obvious who gets the ove...

Re: Bed Bath & Beyond: Dying?

It amazes me when companies make up reasons for you *not* to shop there. Sounds quite similar to a one time retail behemouth that is now at death's door. What's going on-did they hire Eddie Lampert or something? And about the phone number, I would've entered 867-5309 just to be smart and see if the...

Re: Walmart observations

Again these pick up services were done in response to Amazon... Wall Street punished retailers who were not offering such services... Amazon again leading the regular retailers down a money losing path. Not Walmart related but along the lines of this particular aspect of the topic. I was in a local...

Maybe they're subscribing to the theory that any publicity is good publicity. Mind you, I know nothing about this chain but here we are a bunch of retail buffs talking about it. Maybe that's what they're after.

Re: Walmart observations

From the time they arrived in my area in the early '90's, I always had the feeling that Walmart didn't trust anybody. The attitude projected was that they felt the customers and employees were robbing them blind and darnit we're not going to stand for it and if you don't like it then don't shop or w...

Re: Walmart observations

They are losing tons of sales when customers get tired of waiting in line and leave. Not to mention they have to restock all of that merchandise as well. I even got so incensed at the entire experience I left an entire order on the belt and walked out. And you know the employees shouldn't have to d...

Re: Rite Aid Buys Bartell Drugs

Local small chains are better staffed. You could say the same for some independents too. There's a small independent pharmacy in Johnstown, NY that has between 6-8 pharmacists on staff and they're always busy. Place has been around forever and has occupied the same corner location for decades. Thos...

Re: Kum & Go to enter Utah; 30 stores slated for SLC

the police got tired of dealing with drive offs. Hilarious story about that-across the street from the Post Office where I worked is a Cumberland Farms. It's now pre pay but in the days prior to that, one drive off in particular stands out. When the police asked the clerk for a description, they we...

They're one thing and one thing only-a grocery store pure and simple. Have never pretended to be anything but and along the way have become very successful. They're doing something right and here's hope they never change that formula.

Stewart's Shops (THE dominant operator here) still allows that as well. There can't be many left out there that do .
