Re: Safeway NorCal Remodels and New Stores
I'm real curious why the pricing in NorCal is so much higher than SoCal. This is very noticeable. And it did not used to be this way. Both regions used to be equally expensive/out of line in price. But pricing in SoCal for some mysterious reason is looking much better. It isn't as good as you'd see...

Re: Nordstrom: dying too?
I've noticed this too. I wonder if their online sales have picked up. They might be thinking of the stores as showrooms at this point.
But of course Nordstrom has higher margins than Sears, so they need fewer customers to be profitable.

Re: Sam's Club to focus Member's Mark on sustainability
I haven't seen a Sam's Club that didn't accept all the major credit cards. My guess would be that they piggy-back off Walmart's merchant agreements. I think Sam's Club's main draw over Costco is superior technology. Costco's tech is firmly stuck in the 90s. No ability to check items/prices in stock ...

Re: Target and Unions
Or you just make a change to what INSURANCE you use and stay with whatever doctor you want to see :) No reason you need to "start over" with something that could be important just to satisfy someone who cares nothing about your health, just wants to take your money. That isn't always poss...

Re: Rite Aid closing at least 63 stores
I bet Walgreens paid a pretty penny for those files. The other Rite Aid store may not have the staff or capacity to absorb so many extra prescriptions, or they figured they would rather have the cash now than the long-term profits.
Things aren't looking too good for Rite Aid.

Re: Albertsons closing Irvine, CA
I used to this this was how it worked too. And I think it is how it used to work. The Conservatives were pro business and would approve anything, at warp speed. But that isn't how it seems to work in the real world anymore. The Liberal side seems to approve anything, make it as dense as possible, f...

Re: Target and Unions
I mean any job. Let's say I go to work for Starbucks for 5 years. Then I am done with that and I decide okay now I want to go work in a hotel. Then after 5 years I am tired of the hotel and I say okay now I want to go work in the road construction industry turning around the "stop" and &q...

Re: Rite Aid closing at least 63 stores
I just read that last month Rite Aid rejected a buyout for a 56% premium over their current valuation. The buyers threatened a hostile takeover but I don't know if they are going to actually try. This means that either management has a plan they are really confident in, or they are just being foolis...

Re: Franchisees opposed to improved McDonald's operations?
They work for McDonald's Corporation in a profit sharing system. McDonald's is the boss. They are not. Period. If I was McDonald's corporate I would have people on planes unannounced heading to every store opposed to this program with legal queued up ready to revoke the franchise and finance ready ...
