Re: Chevron Selling Headquarters In San Ramon

Houston has historically been the corporate headquarters of the domestic oil industry. Chevron was a bit of an outlier being headquartered in California. We will see if they officially move to Houston, or keep a downsized headquarters in San Ramon. But honestly, this is the new post-COVID reality in...

Re: Vons closing Vista store

I also think the Albertsons banner in SoCal in particular, for whatever reason, still has some strength. I can't believe it has any strength left after how Supervalu ran it into the ground, but it seems to have some strength. The SoCal Albertsons even at their worst were in remarkably better condit...

Re: Walmart observations

But there isn’t one at this time….Kmart is a zombie retailer, Target has its own inventory and management problems, Amazon’s grocery operation is marginal, Kroger seems to be dropping the Fred Meyer- inspired “Marketplace” concept to emphasize food. It doesn't necessarily have to be one. Different ...

Re: Vons closing Vista store

They have been wise to not convert many SoCal Stores to the Vons banner. That Cliff Store in Santa Barbara that closed as Haggen then reopened as Vons is the only example I can think of. Though all it will take is one management team who likes Vons to go ahead and re-banner everything to Vons, doin...

Re: Biden Administration Sides With Pork Industry to Invalidate Parts of Prop 12 at Scotus

And this is where this politics shows its true colors. If it were truly about "the planet and the animal" the lawmakers would insist prices would not increase in order to protect the consumer. Or limit the flow of price increases over time so as to not cause an immediate shock to the cons...

Re: Gelson's, Stater Bros Sued Over Thick Plastic Bags

The law gets thrown out when the grocers decide they don't want to deal with it anymore (once it is costing them more money than it is worth) and will use their lobby to get the law thrown out or re-worked. The tipping point is coming as the cost of the bags exceeds 10 cents and the retailers are s...

Re: Gelson's, Stater Bros Sued Over Thick Plastic Bags

You will see this law get thrown out if this challenge is successful. Or you will see the law is no longer being "enforced" anymore if this challenge is successful. The supply chain for paper bags is very fragile at this time and cannot support that type of demand. I expect the plastic ba...

Re: Gelson's, Stater Bros Sued Over Thick Plastic Bags

I agree that the super-thick plastic bags have got to go, and this lawsuit may be the only way to do it without revising the law. If the lawsuit is successful, retailers will have no choice but to switch to paper bags.

Re: 99 Cents Only

99 Cents Only seems to be really dropping the ball recently. 6-8 years ago I got a good chunk of my groceries from there, as they had good prices on smaller-size products that were suitable for a single person. But now their pricing seems to be higher than many other stores. I completely understand ...

Re: Raleys converting Reno Store to ONE Market Format

Raley’s has been doing quite a few department resets lately. This is at a standard “non-ONE” store. It started with teas a couple months ago, and then the beauty section. I’ve also seen them reset the cracker and granola bar sections. Over the past few weeks I’ve seen the Asian foods department hav...
