I think that's the intention, and it seems to have worked on you. Businesses implement junk fees hoping that you will blame politicians instead. Just like Spirit Airlines' "Unintended Consequences of DOT Regulations" fee.

Re: Gov Newsom leaves Panera Exempt from CA Min Wage?
The exception for chains that have less than 60 locations is interesting. What if McDonald's rebranded their restaurants? For example, rebrand 59 restaurants as Ronald McDonald's Hamburgers or Grimace's Burgers. Would that allow below $20 per hour wages? I don't know about this law in particular, b...

What if we started a subforum for "Retail Payments"?
With the Visa/Mastercard merchant settlement, there has been a lot to talk about in the credit card space. I think a subforum on this topic might see some interest among our members.

Re: Restaurant Fees
Perch (rooftop bar in downtown LA) now has a 4.5% "security fee". Did you ask about what that fee was and if it was optional? I am curious how they would describe the exact use of a "security fee." I probably wouldn't have asked at the end of the visit to a bar to the server who...

Re: Macys Stores Closing by 2026
I'd expect it is more likely they'll receive offers on one of the flagship secondary stores, like the South Coast Plaza men's store or Valley Fair's men's and home store, before some of the other secondary stores go away. And for those curious, the company does publish a list of stores with their r...

Re: Thrive Market
I signed up for their free trial several years ago. Frankly, I wasn't impressed. Selection wasn't great and prices weren't competitive. I suppose it works for certain people, but I prefer to go to physical stores.

Re: Restaurant Adoption of pay-by-phone systems
I will not do any money related functions on my phone. A restaurant offering this as the only payment option will alienate quite a few customers. I've never seen any restaurant offering this as the only payment option. They will still take your card and process it like normal if you want. I'm sure ...

Re: Dollar General eliminating self checkout
Yikes. Hopefully they increase staffing levels to offset the loss of self checkout, but we all know that isn't going to happen. Their stores are already a mess and sometimes there is only one cashier who also seems to have other duties.

Re: Chickfila to END "no antibiotics ever" chicken
There probably was a way to transition to cage free eggs without a sharp sudden price increase or to slow the price increase to a phase in over time, in a phased approach over a number of in a given state for producers like must be 10% cage free in 2020, 20% cage free in 2021 etc. But that wouldn't...
