Re: Albertsons announces strategic review of company
I've been reminded of the time that Ahold bought Pathmark in 1999, and the time that Ahold Delhaize bought King Kullen in 2019. https://www.supermarketnews.com/archive/ahold-agrees-purchase-pathmark-175-billion https://farmingdale-observer.com/2019/01/11/king-kullen-acquired-by-behemoth-grocer-ahold...

Re: Albertsons announces strategic review of company
Now there's speculation that they want some sort of Ahold Delhaize merger. Ahold Delhaize runs the stronger operation in the Northeast but it would mean more divestments centered around the Northeast. https://seekingalpha.com/news/3869157-albertsons-ticks-higher-on-ahold-takeover-speculation Wow, t...

Re: Costco and Trader Joe's Selling Pineberries
I've seen these recently at Food Bazaar and Seabra's Market here in NJ. Almost bought them, too, if only for the novelty (and the $0.99 price at Food Bazaar for I think it's 10 oz...). I don't like berries but my parents might enjoy them. How much were they at your stores?

Re: Stop & Shop closures
Returning to this topic with another NJ closure — this one the extremely outdated Highland Park store. https://www.mycentraljersey.com/story/news/local/middlesex-county/2022/07/28/stop-and-shop-highland-park-nj-to-close/65385771007/ Here’s my tour from 2020: https://www.marketreportblog.com/2021/10/...

Re: Amazon Fresh: Just Walk Out
An interesting addition to the “Just Walk Out” Amazon shopping is that similar, cashier-less (but smaller) grocery stores are now open on the campus of the University of Denver, run by foodservice provider Sodexo. Sounds like they may have figured out a few issues Amazon is dealing with, but they’re...

Re: Amazon Fresh: Just Walk Out
Out here in New Jersey, The Star-Ledger did NOT like the first Amazon Fresh in the state. https://www.nj.com/entertainment/2022/07/njs-1st-amazon-fresh-grocery-store-is-a-poorly-stocked-letdown-heres-our-review.html Not a great introduction to the state, especially since The Star-Ledger (and its rel...

Re: self check out
I wonder if Food Bazaar is still manually changing prices vs. having a single price feed from a main office. Some of these smaller chains still change prices at each store every week in a very manual process. At least they have self checkout, perhaps that is a carry over from A&P. The register ...

Re: Albertsons announces strategic review of company
Not sure if this is the place for it, but how's Albertsons doing in other regions of the country? I'm just curious what's going on in other divisions that I don't get to observe on the ground all the time. I'm in northern New Jersey, and the very rapid renovations that were sweeping through the ACME...

Re: self check out
I find I am undercharged when I go to regular cashiers. Between them not scanning all items, using incorrect PLU codes, in the case of CA not assessing the bag fee, I often find myself undercharged. Conversely when I am using self checkout, I scan all items, I use the correct PLU codes, and I charg...
