Re: Gerrity's joins Wakefern

About this store, I wouldn't be at all surprised they end up closing it. Gerrity's was born out of the former locally-owned Giant Markets chain and the Moosic store was actually one Giant closed probably back in the 70's and converted to a warehouse concept. I was honestly very surprised Gerrity's ...

Re: Gerrity's joins Wakefern

It may be more for the size (the ones mentioned in NJ were under Foodtown previously and at least the one I know of is definitely a smaller/older store), or just as an alternative. Not really sure that having another ShopRite store in the same area would cause any issues, as some of the NJ ones are...

Re: Gerrity's joins Wakefern

Other than the smaller store size, is there any difference between a ShopRite store and The Fresh Grocer? Is it like how Ahold uses Martins in VA, MD and WV for Giant-PA stores because there was a preexisting Giant chain (originally unrelated), same store different name, or is The Fresh Grocer a co...

They own 9 supermarkets in th...

Re: Albertsons relaunches Sparkling Water Brand

Polar seems to be the best of the seltzers/sparkling waters taste wise. It probably depends on the water quality used to make the seltzer Polar is the best! As a current resident of Worcester, MA, home of Polar Seltzer (and its Orson the Polar Bear, on the roof of the factory), I like Soleil enough...

Re: NYC Area Cooperatives

Not a cooperative, but I thought this article was worth sharing. Fascinating read about the struggle for control over Western Beef in NYC. There have been some very strange choices made lately, but this explains a lot of it. https://www.curbed.com/2022/05/western-beef-real-estate-cheap-meat-luxury-r...

Re: NYC Area Cooperatives

Here's a fun wrinkle in the Village Super Market story in NYC. They just opened on Friday a new two-story Gourmet Garage supermarket in the West Village of Manhattan, and interestingly enough, some of the departments (coffee, for instance) are Fairway-branded. Since this Gourmet Garage is larger and...

Re: Whole Foods Closures

Six stores are closing: 2 in Alabama, 2 Chicago, Tarzana, California, and Brookline, Maine. Is there any chance that these might be converted to Amazon Fresh? Or how about Amazon clothing stores? Actually, Brookline, Massachusetts! That's one of the smallest if not the smallest Whole Foods out ther...

Re: Acorn does a price check: NY, Chicago, LA suburbs

I don't think most Americans consider Target to be a grocer. This article had an odd selection of retailers. They should have picked the largest regional chains in each city rather than national chains which may be niche and not have high market share. Exactly. Although, of course, that makes the a...
