Re: 🛒 Kroger-Albertsons Merger: National Impact
They are not talking about anything other than the FTC extending the deadline beyond January 17. This is complete silliness. The FTC and multiple states are going to sue to block it. Yet the FTC has indeed allowed a lot of other silliness over the last two decades that has not been allowed before. ...

Re: 2024 Retail Predictions?
Here is what I expect to happen with Kroger and Albertsons, since this is a hot topic: SoCal: Hypothetically if the Albertsons/Kroger merger goes through, which I'm not quite sure it will at this point, Kroger and Albertsons will be required to sell more stores than initially planned to C&S, wh...

Re: 🛒 Kroger-Albertsons Merger: National Impact
Market by market the needed approach might be different. What I said above about California is the truth. Nobody is going to benefit when a store is divested and becomes a C&S-Albertsons. If it became a Stater Bros, Bristol Farms, Seafood City, Northgate, Vallarta, H-Mart, 99 Ranch, Raley's, Nu...

Re: Bristol Farms "Newfound Market"
This store hasn't even been open for two years, leaving me with doubts that Bristol Farms has intentions to close the store, simply because there is no way they have completed their lease yet. It is understandable if maybe they are trying to convert the store to another new concept, but they would s...

Re: Rite Aid closing at least 63 stores
None of that happens for retail. When a company goes bankrupt, it's very difficult to rebound. I can't really think of any major retailers that went through bankruptcy and then were successful afterwards. Furthermore, after their experience with Kmart/Sears, the public will expect that a wave of st...

Re: Kroger to merge with Albertsons?
While there are articles out there that believe the FTC will do the same as every other merger in past years and approve of it, I still think that there is a chance the FTC will block the merger based off of the likeliness that the C&S deal can likely just be a complete repeat of Haggen. In Sout...

Re: Kroger to merge with Albertsons?
Either way, many banners in Southern California are going to have to be changed, however, it's questionable whether there might be as many as people think, as I think there is a good chance many Albertsons next to/across the street from a Ralphs or Vons stores may be divested simply to save the time...
