Re: Raley's announces new Truckee store

Looks like the shovels will hit the ground in a couple of weeks https://twitter.com/raleys/status/1131302557618327552 Wow, it only took three years! More than that. Raley's had been trying to get into Truckee for the past 15 years. At one point they had two stores proposed. Both were well over Truc...

Re: Fred Meyer attempts to curb shrink "a new way"

In the past I've been to this store a few times and it always seemed to be extremely busy. I wonder if it simply does so much volume that they are having trouble controlling operations. Maybe Wal Mart would be a better fit for the location and better able to handle the current operational situation....

Re: All Dressbarn stores to close

They sold Maurice's. I would guess they probably wanted to sell Dress Barn and when that finally did not happen they decided to just shut the thing down. It is kind of odd no events like you describe took place prior, but maybe they were trying to paint a rosy picture to sell it. The Dress Barn in R...

Re: Fred Meyer attempts to curb shrink "a new way"

Noticed at the Gateway store in Portland, they moved HBA all in to one caged off section of the store. And you have to buy them all there as you leave the caged off area. Never seen that before at a Fred Meyer. The store was packed with shoppers so it doesn't seem to have impacted sales but man tha...

Re: Western Family being replaced by Food Club at Associated Food Stores??

Does SuperValu/UNFI still offer the Springfield brand in CA? Yes, Springfield is still being offered on dry grocery categories. It will be interesting to see how long it lasts. Wild Harvest, Equaline, and other old Albertsons, Inc. friends are all present in other categories in SoCal. The Springfie...

Re: MOD Pizza and the rise of Fast Casual pizza chains

I had MOD back when they only had a few locations, up in Bellevue. It was well under $5 for a mini and seemed like a great deal. The place ran like a well oiled machine and it was just really really good. MOD eventually showed up in Reno. Pricing is much higher now. I went once and while it still ra...

Re: Odd changes at DQ here

DQ is really loose with its operators. There isn't much of a standard. I hesitate to call it a dying brand, but it kind of feels like one from my viewpoint. They are out of Reno proper entirely. We had 3 locations a decade ago. One in the mall closed (probably failed). One was demolished in downtown...

Re: Albertsons/Safeway 2018 & 2019: Openings and Closings

The Lucky was probably on a different program for meat and produce than Vons (lower prices and different mix). But their ad looks like a standard Vons ad, so maybe that changed recently. If so that may be why the store finally tanked. Albertsons has had a "discount/Hispanic" format running in SoCal ...

Re: Kroger May Sell Off Its Convenience Store Chains, Including Kwik Shop, Tom Thumb, Turkey Hill

Went to a second Quik Stop today here in NV with busted out price sign. Again from wind months ago and still not fixed. The entire site looks kind of rough. Weeds all over landscaping, etc. Not clear if they are responsible from landscaping or the property owner because there is a little strip mall ...

Re: Popeyes closures in Idaho

I was really surprised when I heard they got a Habit franchise. I thought maybe Habits are easier to run than a Popeyes and perhaps it could work out. It will be interesting to see what happens. The Popeyes reviews for locations run by NorCal Cajun (or "Elite") are truly awful. https://www.yelp.com/...
