Re: Report: Amazon planning to open new (non Whole Foods) grocery stores
I can even see a situation where they might dismantle or sell Whole Foods entirely. Why would they do that? Whole Foods is a well established brand with a customer base that is willing to spend a lot of money. They would be foolish to do that IMO. They recently announced that they are discontinuing...

Re: Smith's Food & Drug stopping Visa acceptance
I am sure there has been a big celebration in Boise today when this news broke. Because it is such a stupid move. ... I think Kroger should just end Visa acceptance at all stores. See how it works out. They will lose customers, but maybe the loss in customers will be made up for in profitability by...

Re: Report: Amazon planning to open new (non Whole Foods) grocery stores
In the article I read, it made it sound like Amazon would be interested in buying regional chains. But I am thinking that it could be interesting if Kroger and Amazon merged. Kroger has the footprint. Plus Amazon possibly could meld well with Fred Meyer and Kroger’s Marketplace concepts. But possib...

Re: Smith's Food & Drug stopping Visa acceptance
 Guess they're here to play hard ball. https://twitter.com/BenWinslow/status/1101488009097109507 I'm sure Albertsons appreciates the sentiment, though. Interesting. For years it was always American Express that had excessive fees, at least with smaller businesses. I am sure there has been a b...

Re: Report: Amazon planning to open new (non Whole Foods) grocery stores
Amazon has not done a particularly good job with Whole Foods. They seem to be backtracking on expansion of corporate offices in certain cities using politicians who I do not endorse or support even remotely as scrapegoats for why they are backtracking. I suspect there is more to the story. I do not ...

Re: Kroger to end Visa acceptance at Smiths April 3
Visa cards are what I use for just about everything, and every place that accepts credit cards accept Visa. If my local Kroger stopped accepting Visa, I'd be REALLY pissed off and never go to Kroger again for anything that I couldn't comfortably carry in my hands, and I imagine others would do the ...

Kroger to end Visa acceptance at Smiths April 3
Let's see if this actually happens. This will really hurt them, especially in Nevada and Utah where Smiths has a lot of competition. I am surprised Kroger is willing to make Smiths a "sacrifice" in this manner. I sort of understood it with Foods Co given the low store count and that it isn...

Re: JCPenney to stop selling appliances
The number of store closures probably needs to be much higher. This is probably just stores where leases will end in the next year or so. Given how the company was run the last half of last year after the old CEO bolted for Lowes, I suppose the new management may be able to show some okay results th...

Amazon is also abandoning plans to occupy 722,000 square feet of office space under construction in Downtown Seattle, opting instead to sublease it: https://komonews.com/news/local/is-amazon-souring-on-seattle-company-reportedly-ditches-plan-for-rainier-square This seems to be a direct result of th...

Re: Albertsons/Safeway 2018 & 2019: Openings and Closings
Not official yet, but the Randalls at Exposition Blvd and Lake Austin Blvd in Austin will likely be closing over the coming months as the property's lease comes up for renewal. UT Austin owns the property, and as of now, intends to lease it to HEB. This property is a tight squeeze, but would likely...
