Re: Western Family being replaced by Food Club at Associated Food Stores??
Food Club is a fairly comprehensive private label program. TopCo clearly starved Western Family in an effort to kill the line off by cutting its SKUs, eliminating it on household items in place of Simply Done (bleh) or Top Care. I suspect the fatal blow to Western Family continuing as a label was wh...

Re: Shun Fat (SF) Supermarket coming to Portland
This is an okay operator. They were actually the first "large" Asian supermarket to venture into Sacramento in the late 90's.
Their front end "technology" is pretty bad. Credit/debit is processed through a separate terminal from the main register.

Re: Walmart observations
Wal Mart has been a bit strange when they close stores. The signs that a store is closing are not always there. It seems like for them it comes down to stores with "issues" like theft or similar in which case even very busy stores have closed. Wal Mart is making a lot of changes like elimi...

Re: Kroger to stop offering paper bags with handles
For the longest time, the default bag at Ralphs was a handled paper bag. They did away with that a few years ago. Not completely. My Online delivery came in the handled paper bags. Maybe only some locations had bags with handles. I find it funny this article says it was in "upper income areas....

Re: Winter Storm panic shopping
I don't know if this is related, but I noticed that the Fred Meyer brand of 2% milk has been replaced by the Mountain Dairy brand (which has been absent from the Fred Meyer I shop at for a few years) and on the label it states "Real California Milk" I could see them bringing in milk from ...

Re: Rite Aid Conversions or Closings
You're right, Super S. The way Portland has grown, I wanted to be sure. I will say that I used to have family nearby and visited that Rite Aid a few times. The parking was a bit weird, but the store always seemed to be busy at least for a Rite Aid. It was more of a neighborhood store than anything....

Interesting they only offered these in some stores to begin with. Smiths has had paper bags with handles in all stores for years.

Re: Let’s talk about Kroger Pay.
CVS Pay allowed loyalty card use plus a credit card payment in one scan by the cashier during the transaction. It scanned a QR code on the phone and that acted like a loyalty card. When it came time to pay, the cashier totaled and it popped up an alert on the screen asking if customer wants to proce...

Re: LATimes.com ranks french fries
As for fries, the one that seems to be most up for debate is Arby's. A lot of people (including my wife) love the Arby's curly fries, but I can barely stand them. It seems a lot of the time they somehow manage to be undercooked and overcooked at the same time, and the seasoning just doesn't work fo...

Re: LATimes.com ranks french fries
Apparently someone at INO doesn’t know that you have to rinse the starch off of the fresh cut fries to make them fry correctly You have to wonder why they skip this step... In N Out is good about special orders. They will do, literally, anything that they have the product/equipment to do. I wonder ...
