Re: Simon mall branding homogenization
Seems like what Westfield was trying to do 10-15 years ago before the last economic crash.

International Marketplace Point Roberts, WA
What is the history of this store? It sits in the odd remote Point Roberts which geographically is cut off entirely from the US (you can only enter it via Canada). The store is quite large and seems really low volume. The store is pretty large and has pallet rack style shelving, a very small produce...

Re: WinCo passing on tax to Oregon customers
Nevada has some sort of gross receipts tax that was questionably implemented too but I have not heard of any businesses passing it on to consumers in the form of an itemized charge...
It hits high revenue businesses particularly hard, though the percentage of the tax varies by business type.

Oregon Senate Passes Thin Plastic Bag Ban
This one even extends to restaurants. However, it does not require restaurants to charge a bag fee like it will to retailers. The bag fee at 5 cents, is well below cost for paper bags and thick plastic bags, so this will probably not help the retailer's bottom lines much... probably will be a sidewa...

Canada and Shopping Center Leases
I notice around Vancouver a very common theme in shopping centers that are grocery anchored. I keep finding other "grocery" type stores in the same shopping center. By that I mean there are produce markets, bakeries, meat/butcher shops, etc. all other small chain businesses and all in thes...

Re: Sobeys Buys Canada Safeway
I went into one of these "FreshCo" Stores in Richmond, BC. This store was somewhat symbolic for me as it was the first Canada Safeway I went into, right after the Sobeys purchase of the chain. I remember that visit well because I had a lot of trouble in the parking lot getting parking sinc...

Re: Dollar General reaches record settlement with Vermont over pricing discrepancies
Amazed Vermont is the only state that has done this. I had an overcharge at a Dollar General (was like 20 cents or something) a couple years ago and the cashier's solution was to reach into his pocket and put the cash toward my transaction rather than override the price (he said he was the only empl...

I was in a Sears north of Baltimore last month that didn't look awful, but not healthy by any stretch.

Re: Chipotle Raising Prices Due To Tariffs
Looks like this Mexico tariff issue will be a moot point now. Good. I was reading a story a couple hours ago saying how the Trump Mexico tariffs will make the 2019 Thanksgiving dinner cost more.

Re: Chipotle Raising Prices Due To Tariffs
These tariffs could actually happen. What will be the results if they do happen? What is the purpose of these tariffs? Is it supposed to makes jobs come back to the United States? Let's face reality here. If these tariffs were going to be something other than temporary, it would potentially bring j...
