Bye bye Biggs
SuperValu is selling part of Biggs to Remke's, whatever that is, and closing the remaining stores. Based on the appearance of the Remke's ads, they are a conventional and not a hypermarket operator. Their prices also look very high from what I am seeing in their ad. Too bad, given that this was a hy...

Re: Kroger buying Haggen?
But wouldn't the FTC look it as Kroger already has 30.2% share in Seattle and this would give them another chunk of share putting that much more ahead of the next nearest competition? As far as Bellingham goes, what's with the low Safeway presence? Haggen is an excellent operator (based on what I sa...

I've heard these rumors but suspect they are total BS.

Re: Mar-Val closing SaveMax opening.
This article was poorly written. Mar Val is retaining the store but is changing the concept. Maybe the article was written this way on purpose to try and erase the wrath of Mar Val.

Re: Safeway to Relocate Bonners Ferry, ID Store
I thought this interior looked pretty good. I went into a couple of these Trading Co. Stores down near Spokane and it appeared they were struggling after buying stores from the failed Tidyman's operation. They weren't bad stores really, but, too much competition and an unknown name appeared to be pr...

Re: Bashas- Announcement?
There were a few Super Kmarts there. Two (mid 90's models I presume) closed during bankruptcy but one (an early 00's model I think...) is still open but no longer as a Super Kmart after having groceries removed sometime in the past few months.

Re: Bashas- Announcement?
I think we are using different numbers and whichever I have are taking rural areas perhaps away from Tucson into consideration. I did go over to the Wal Mart site and was surprised to see how few Supercenters they have there. Just 4 supercenters within 15 miles, but 5 neighborhood markets. I wonder ...

Re: Bashas- Announcement?
What is the share for Safeway and Fry's in Tucson now? The last numbers I have from 2006 show Fry's with 18 stores having 23.4% and Safeway with 26 stores having 22.9%. Wal Mart shows 6 supers and 2 neighborhood markets to have 19.3%. Digging back more I found Fry's to have over 30% share in 2001 wh...
