Fred Meyer in Boise

I wonder what the plans are for Fred Meyer in Boise. So far only Nampa has been remodeled and gotten the cuts to GM mix. The other stores still have a complete non food mix and mostly have a 2010 era remodel (cement floors) except the one by the airport has the 2000 era white wall interior (still lo...

Re: Albertsons announces "Market Street Idaho"

I spent some time in both of these new concept stores recently and they are really fantastic. I have no clue if this is a profitable concept given the labor needed, but it is sure a great concept in my opinion. Also interesting is a number of prices in these two stores are lower than their standard ...

Re: WinCo moving into former Kmart in Ontario, Oregon

I went into this store. At first it came off okay. Bulk foods in particular felt just as large as a normal Winco. Produce was smaller but seemed big enough. Meat was kind of smashed in the back corner. The lack of a bakery and deli was a definine negative. The product mix in the aisles is so much le...

Re: Kroger and creepy PA Announcements

I noticed at Fred Meyer that the top of the hour chime plays but there are no words after the chime about the top of the hour. Kind of funny. But Fred Meyer still has the ghost security announcements and a lot of other annoyances. They even seem to interrupt songs. They really need to clean this up....

Re: H Mart opening two Downtown Seattle locations

If the H Mart in Chicago's West Loop is any indication, the stores will be pretty fancy. The West Loop is more analogous to South Lake Union than it is to Pike Place Market. We will see. There is something different with the H Marts in OR/WA/CO/British Columbia compared to the rest of the chain. Th...

Re: H Mart opening two Downtown Seattle locations

https://seattle.eater.com/2019/9/13/20863922/district-h-seattle-h-mart-us-location-south-lake-union Korean grocer H Mart is opening two stores in Downtown Seattle this month; one regular (but presumably smaller than usual) H Mart store near Pike Place Market, and a more upscale "District H" store (...

Re: Oregon and SW Washington UFCW Union May Strike

So, obviously all employer benefits packages may differ, and (arguably) Portland market is less expensive than Seattle, but here is what HMart is offering to employees for their new downtown Seattle store that will be opening later this month. $16-$18/hour Typical employer benefits after 3 months a...

Re: Bristol Farms, Metropolitan Market & Lazy Acres Acquired!

Alpha, that is not true of newer 99 Ranch locations. There's an entire video of a woman from Epicurious eating at the NJ 99 Ranch. The one in Beaverton, Ore. is virtually identical, although a bit smaller. I'm not really sure how this Korean company plays into running these three grocery brands, bu...

Re: Southern California Grocery Workers Vote to Strike

Still a pretty good deal though. Times have sure changed.

This issue isn't isolated to the grocery industry either.

Re: (City of) Malibu Grocery Store Report - Article

I did notice they yanked most of the "fancy" prepared foods and the high-end baked goods, both of which were unique to this store. It now looks like a regular Ralphs... That doesn't seem like a very bright idea considering a brand new Whole Foods opened recently just a couple blocks away. Well, Kro...
