Re: Restaurant Fees

Blame who runs California and LA county…Newsom and Gascon. I think that's the intention, and it seems to have worked on you. Businesses implement junk fees hoping that you will blame politicians instead. Just like Spirit Airlines' "Unintended Consequences of DOT Regulations" fee. I could ...

Re: What's Office Depot's future

I've been surprised they haven't closed more locations. Office Depot keeps limping along in Reno. Multiple locations. These stores have a trickle of customers but they don't have many customers, transaction sizes are small, and the employees seem bored. The product mix feels uninspired but the stor...

Re: Costco Door Scanning Rolling Out

i've heard rumors after the rollout is complete that nonmembers over 18 will need a valid ID to enter costco stores. How does that work? A couple comes in and one of them has a card/scans it- the other person in the couple has to show ID? If they don't have a card too? What will be done with this I...

Re: Gov Newsom leaves Panera Exempt from CA Min Wage?

The exception for chains that have less than 60 locations is interesting. What if McDonald's rebranded their restaurants? For example, rebrand 59 restaurants as Ronald McDonald's Hamburgers or Grimace's Burgers. Would that allow below $20 per hour wages? I don't know about this law in particular, b...

I think so too. Especially how retailers will handle this, surcharging, etc.

Re: Rite Aid closing at least 63 stores

The restructuring plan calls for them to continue to operate 1,600 stores and 5 distribution centers. So if the plan wins approval the store closures are almost over but not quite over yet. That they have a plan is good news, this is a lot further than some other retailers got. It will be interestin...

Re: 🛒 Kroger-Albertsons Merger: National Impact

Per krogeralbertsons.com, C&S is contractually obligated to purchase up to 650 stores. They have to buy anything Kroger shoves their way. They may not refuse. It was part of the original deal. If more than 650 need to go the merger is off per the deal (which makes sense as the cost per store wo...

Re: Meanwhile in Canada, they're building Malls

What is interesting in Canada is it isn't unusual to see a Dollar Tree and/or Dollarama Store in many malls. In the US though those types of stores don't seem to show up in malls as they'd be viewed as downscale or something. But these stores bring in traffic. They sell essential goods. They provide...

Re: Oscar Mayer Plant-based NotHotDogs

Also in the past thought the Oscar Mayer Beef Franks were okay... They had (or maybe still have) a line of uncured, all-beef hot dogs that weren't bad. I switched to the Whole Foods brand and never looked back. PS: Skip the Applegate Farms all-beef hot dogs. They are pretty bad. I've thought the al...
