Re: Macy's Neighborhood Store Watch

It would make perfect sense to operate the second-tier stores under a different name. They certainly have plenty to choose from. However, Macy's is so enamored with Macy's that it won't do it. I would argue they already are doing this- it is called Macy's Backstage. It just so happens to be within ...

Re: Macy's Neighborhood Store Watch

Macy's is in a unique position in Idaho (compared to Washington and Oregon) as Dillard's operates in the same mall in Boise. It seems like Boise is a bit of a "test" for Dillard's for possible expansion further into Oregon or Washington. Dillard's has been running in Boise since 1998 so t...

Re: Subway...what a joke

The later already has been happening in my area of Philly..they plopped a location in almost every large strip center in the later 2000's, and one by one they are slowly closing up (hard to compete with Wawa for cheap hoagies to begin with, and all the independent shops that make something 100x bet...

Re: The present and future of Randalls

I was all ready to make some odd comment about there only being 12 remaining Randalls in Austin metro (quick Google map search), several w/out pharmacies, but then I went to look at a comparably sized population area and realized that Associated has sold off so many "Fresh Market" and Dan...

Re: Winco Operations

Well I did see yesterday WinCo is hiring at $12/hr to start in Reno. Up from the previous $10/hr. One of the things in Reno I've noticed looks particularly dirty is the floors (also the self checkout units- I hate having to touch them- really dirty- but if you go to a regular cashier then the belts ...

Re: Macy's Neighborhood Store Watch

I think you're missing the point---they have closed droves of stores over the last 20 years, esp. in northern markets. The last sizable market they entered probably was Atlanta, a huge market where they only have two stores--which opened about 15 years ago. Atlanta should be perfect for them and an...

Re: Macy's Neighborhood Store Watch

Macy's doesn't have a real issue, they just suck at retail that will end up killing them. I was at the Hillsboro, OR store yesterday. Frankly, it was awful. The racks had very little merchandise. Active wear should do well here but Macy's doesn't know how to stock and merchandise it. All they need ...

Re: Save Mart phasing out Market Essentials

By my estimation, about 80% of the private label center-store food items are Sunny Select, so that is still by far the dominant brand. The Topco brands seem to be limited to certain items, like Crav'n frozen pizza and That's Smart shredded cheese. Of course the non-food items are mostly Topco brand...

Re: Short staffed restaurants

Or on the other side of this you will see small independent restaurants staffed by the owner/owner's spouse and a few family members to help out when it is busy be able to survive as they do less business and have a much lower expense structure. You already see a lot of this either in smaller towns ...

Re: Subway...what a joke

unfortunately central control is not one of their strengths...they're one step away from the 1960s "pump and dump" franchisees...they'll put them anywhere (no or very limited geographic exclusivity) and support is pretty nonexistent except for supply chain. They will either get some contr...
