Re: 6 new Frys in the past 15 months
Kroger hasn't opened much of anything in CA/OR/WA in a long time. When they started getting really big into their Ocado automated warehouse concept they paused virtually all new store construction. In Arizona from about 2002 - 2010 they maybe opened 8 stores total over that 8 year period and had mo...

Re: Eggs
I thought UT also had a cage free law that was supposed to take effect this year. Did they also suspend it? My guess is that prices will drop as supply recovers (which is already happening, at least in California), and the opponents of the cage-free law will take credit. I don't quite know what hap...

Re: Safeway Rockville, MD
The store doesn't do very large volumes which is why they were looking to sublet 5 years ago--stores like that can look good with a reasonable level of staffing. I can recall A&Ps that looked great and had no customers. The most recent openings, all in the last 5 years) in the region were Pikev...

Re: Breakfast Sales Down
Breakfast sales were down in January at quick-service restaurants. Taco Bell now allows franchises to not serve breakfast. https://www.nrn.com/quick-service/the-breakfast-daypart-took-a-beating-in-january-and-it-wasn-t-because-of-egg-prices Wendys is desperately pushing breakfast. It is advertising...

Re: Joann Fabrics files for bankruptcy, again; Gordon Brothers is stalking horse bidder
Went to the Reno Store. Supposedly this store is staying open. Unbelievable. Also had temporary HVAC units with tubes connected to ceiling. 3 employees with no customers giggling and screwing around at cut counter. A couple of them were sitting on the floor. I assume they were all employees anyway. ...

Office Depot closing one of their Store of the Future locations: https://www.reddit.com/r/OfficeDepot/comments/1iryevd/bee_cave_tx_store_closing/ Why did this happen for this location?? Does Office Depot have any plans to remodel any of their go-forward locations if there are any?? If there are, ho...

Re: 6 new Frys in the past 15 months
How many new stores (actual new stores- not replacements and not relocations) have Portland Safeway, Seattle Safeway, Shaws, and even Safeway East opened in the past decade...? If you go through the financial reports you'll find Kroger opens more new stores than Albertsons as a company, and the sto...

Re: Eggs
Nevada Cage Free Egg law is suspended for 120 days. It is anticipated prices will start to fall within 30 days. This is a definite test. We will see how it works. I am hoping stores like Smiths who supply from UT can immediately move NV off the cage free eggs and bring over the lower cost ones. I t...
