Re: Daiso to open in Vancouver, WA

Daiso hired some former Wal Mart executive to try and run store operations in the US so maybe some things will improve.

Daiso's new stores have been shrinking in the US. They were moving toward 15-20k square foot type stores but seem to be back toward 10k or so square foot stores lately.

Re: Self Check Outs

Side note: Target across the street from The Beverly Center Mall had all their Self Checkouts closed. There were 4 regular lanes open an flowing nicely. Their older units are in bad shape and I see many inoperative even when they are not supervising at all. I am seeing stores with only 2 or 3 worki...

Re: New Temecula Smart & Final

Your perception of Stater's produce is the perception I always have. As a tourist, Stater just doesn't really do very well for me. I always think if I lived there and was cooking I'd have a different opinion and like shopping there, but until that scenario actually occurs, it is difficult to know ho...

Re: Electronic Price Tags

Holiday/Sav-Mor in NorCal have been using the electronic price tags for a while and maintenance and execution with these tags has been immaculate. These are not overly high volume stores but they have some traffic. I've seen them over the years in Albertsons and Kroger units but for whatever reasons...

Re: Kohl's Earnings Surprise Crash and Burn

Dillard’s sucess is that most of their stores are in smaller cities, where they are often the only full-line department store in town. Those places are not known for the desire for the newest fashion designs. I haven't really noticed this situation of them being the only full line department store ...

Re: Kohl's Earnings Surprise Crash and Burn

With all that being said about Dillard's.............................I hardly think this is a retailer to be admired. 🤷‍♂️🤪 They may not be a retailer to be admired in the sense that they do not go after cutting edge design or technology, or innovation, but they have managed their house properly fr...

Re: "Physical retail / malls are dead"

Maybe people just want a surprise. Luckily their next door neighbor is a Sola Salon franchise so the breezeway could be blocked. About 1/3 of the nearby plates are from Oregon. https://s3-media0.fl.yelpcdn.com/bphoto/FXsctPaXAbYLlJivQAO7zA/348s.jpg How many people do they actually let into the stor...

Re: 99 CENT ONLY closing

This article includes a list of 99 stores that are purportedly reopening as Dollar Trees. Considering the misinformation in other articles about this transaction, I'd take it with a grain of salt. I did notice that my local store was not included on the list; in this case there's a Dollar Tree lite...

Re: "Cheeseburger"

McDonald’s, BK and Wendy’s readily sell hamburgers here. JITB, Carl’s, Rally’s, etc. don’t. My McD’s and Wendy’s sell hamburgers for the same price as cheeseburgers. Not uncommon to see different pricing and products on the app. At my local Denny’s, you can order items at promotional pricing via th...

Re: Extra Mile Remodeling

Meanwhile, am-pm seems to be fading away in Arizona, most ARCO retailers here have gone to the generic “Food Mart” signage. I don’t know what is going on in SoCal with the am-pm operation. I suspect Marathon is tired of paying BP for licensing am-pm. AM PM claims to have 1,000 locations. I am shock...
