Re: Is 2021 finally the end for Sears/Kmart?

More closures
Sears Downey, CA
Sears Pasadena, CA
Sears Maui, HI
Sears Schaumburg, IL
Sears Raleigh, NC
Sears Brooklyn, NY
Kmart White Plains, NY
Sears Harrisburg, PA

Leaves 19 Sears and about 16 Kmart.

How long... can this go on?

Re: Food Maxx Closing Bakersfield, CA Chester

There should be room for Save Mart in Bakersfield to have a bit more of a presence. I guess Albertsons and Vons are too much competition for them. And at that, there are definitely more Albertsons than Vons there. Albertsons has some nice stores in Bakersfield, with the exception of the Brundage Ln...

Re: Nordstrom Rack Closing In San Francisco

I wouldn't think much into it. It reminds me of the Old Navy Stores closing in San Francisco.

They are keeping the downtown Nordstrom Rack open near the full size Nordstrom Store. This Nordstrom Rack closing was in the SoMa district.

Re: Raleys converting Reno Store to ONE Market Format

Raleys must be pleased with the performance of the ONE Store in Reno. They started a project this week to re-do the exterior of the store. They already repainted the exterior during the conversion but they are now doing a major renovation to the store exterior. Looking at the negative reviews of the...

Re: Short staffed restaurants

Strong disagree, based on working at two separate chains in high school. The drive through acts as a natural funnel that forces customers to come through at a steady pace (you can't take more than one or two orders -- depending on the physical drive thru configuration -- at a time. This is a good p...

Re: Walmart observations

At my Walmart, there is a seasonal dept/indoor garden center section that is walled off/separate from the main store, and has its own exit to the parking lot. It also has two registers, usually at least one is open, but I think the stockers tend to also work those registers if it's not really busy ...

Re: Rumor: EG Group for Sale

Went into the franchise Quik Stop tonight. This one doesn't have chip readers activated on the pumps though the hardware is installed, and it is no longer open 24 hours but open 5 AM to 11 PM. It is right off the interstate; there is a 24 hour Wendys and a 24 hour McDonalds there too, along with a c...

Re: Harris Teeter Hours 6 AM - 9 PM effective 9/15/21

Shorter hours might actually help a lower volume store if it can reduce its costs relative to sales. They have stores in DC that probably aren't losing many sales by closing at 9 and I wouldn't be surprised if this was true, too, in inner Northern Virginia. Stores with a mostly walk-in trade don't ...

Re: Food Maxx Closing Bakersfield, CA Chester

Yup, 3 FoodMaxx and 1 tired old Save Mart left. Kind of pathetic for a company that prides itself on its central valley ties. I also thought FoodMaxx was doing well, but this location was in a bad area plagued by shoplifting, homelessness, etc. The remaining Save Mart and 2 of the FoodMaxxes are on...

Re: Rumor: EG Group for Sale

I went to Quik Stop today and I was wrong above- they do indeed have Cumberland Farms Coffee program in place. Any size 99 cents. They put in all new equipment and I got even more excited when I saw what looked like 2 iced tea brewers with 4 metal urns but unfortunately all 4 of the urns were for ic...
