Re: Rite Aid changes logo

I'm almost certain two of the chains are unionized: RiteAid (legacy Thrifty Drugs contract) and CVS (legacy SavOn Drugs contract). Walgreens entered Southern California with new build stores, as opposed to an acquisition of an existing unionized chain, so I would be surprised if they are unionized b...

Re: Macy’s 2020

Strangely enough I also went into a Macy's today in downtown LA. The store was fairly busy. I entered on the third floor where the furniture department is and would estimate there was somewhere around 20 people shopping. Downstairs where the Men's department and part of Women's department is they ha...

Re: Acme Wynnewood closing

Not far from this old outdated store is a big modern Giant. This probably explains the closure. https://www.google.com/maps/place/GIANT+Food+Stores/@40.00132,-75.2721115,3a,75y,90t/data=!3m8!1e2!3m6!1sAF1QipNRZO5bIabH_MvylbWqnRZde2aEqhua_MxUVl24!2e10!3e12!6shttps:%2F%2Flh5.googleusercontent.com%2Fp%...

Re: Costco discontinues sheet cakes; retains 10 inch round cakes

Back when I worked for Pavilions all the sheet cakes were frozen (Sara Lee brand) and defrosted the day before they were decorated and picked up. Do we know that Costco bakes all cakes from scratch (or mix) in store? I would think that Storewanderer is probably correct that the trend is moving towar...

Re: Stater Bros opening new store tomorrow.

It really seems like their fortunes turned around, after the strike. ----- Also aren't they still at zero self checkouts? Very true. They signed a "me too" agreement during the strike where they agreed to accept whatever the Food Employers Council (Vons, Ralphs & Albertsons) negotiated and saw a sp...

Re: Stater Bros opening new store tomorrow.

I would agree they are not an IDEA type company but would question how it was they were able to successfully purchase that block of former Albertsons/Lucky Stores they bought and operate them successfully (maintained if not increased volumes) when most other parties who purchased stores from that o...

Re: Attempt to convert Baton Rouge Mall into Amazon Distro fails

Good for them. It sounds like they don't let themselves get pushed around. I was surprised to find out that they own 244 of their 285 stores.

The Albertson's turned Haggen in San Pedro kept some of the elements of the Jewel design after they took over: https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/haggen-food-and-pharmacy-san-pedro-2?select=BIRS4Y_2NL4zCXLzt9U1zg https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/haggen-food-and-pharmacy-san-pedro-2?select=Xfo39L83N8okO9...

Re: Favorite supermarket interior? (1995-present)

This may have been one of the last living versions of that interior with the black added: https://s196.photobucket.com/user/StoreWest/library/Safeway/CA%20Burlingame%201450%20Howard?sort=3&page=1 This version of it also had a long life: this store opened in 1978 and I think it may have been remodel...

Re: Favorite supermarket interior? (1995-present)

I would have to go back a little further to the late 1980's and Safeway's interior at the time. The walls were painted black and then then they placed photo murals of food shot against a black background inbetween and it created a cool effect. They used red neon lighting and had employee uniforms to...
