Re: McDonald's franchisees want a better chicken sandwich

McDonald's is really barking up the wrong tree here, customers don't really care if every restaurant is identical (as McDonald's has been updating them with a very rapid pace in the last decade), they want restaurants with competent execution. If McDonald's could institute a program that ensures re...

Re: Oregon and SW Washington UFCW Union May Strike

The other argument is the union scales push up pay for management since you would not have an easy time getting people to move up to salaried non-union management if there was not an ample pay premium from a unionized clerk position. Isn't that a good thing? It's not pushing up the pay for executiv...

Re: Oregon and SW Washington UFCW Union May Strike

Any idea if pay, benefits, or working conditions are any better in those unionized states? I honestly don't know. The Teamster's argument is that the non-unionized workers benefit from the contracts negotiated by the Teamsters because the company has to increase their pay to keep those employees fr...

Add Costco to the list of non-union grocers.
It depends on where you live. Costco employees in California, New York, New Jersey, Maryland and Virginia are unionized. That's 16% of their workforce.

Re: Southeastern Grocers: 2019

Unless they have completely changed their strategy I would say the answer is no. Publix likes a+ real estate only. I lot of BiLo properties are second tier at best. I could see them buy a few individual stores, like they did with Albertson's, but they would be remodeled first and staffed with their ...

Re: Oregon and SW Washington UFCW Union May Strike

It was disappointing to read (if accurate) that Kroger is paying female employees less than their male counterparts. I think the pay rates are the same in each classification regardless of sex. But there are lower paid classifications in Service Deli, Bakery and stockers in HABA/GM c...

Re: The present and future of Randalls

My last visit was to the Randalls at 5219 FM 1960 W in Champions Village. This store originally started its life as a Handy Andy in the 70's and was later sold to Randalls when they exited the market. These former Handy Andy stores have a distinctive design featuring a large low-pitch vaulted roof ...

That aisle actually looks better than what I would have expected after a 7.1.

Re: Albertsons/Safeway 2018 & 2019: Openings and Closings

Rite Aid used to be like that too. A void or price modify of even 25 cents in value required manager approval. They changed it and now it is some sort of random thing likely based on dollar amount and some sort of algorithms. The original Datachecker registers in SoCal used by Safeway were even wor...

Re: Albertsons/Safeway 2018 & 2019: Openings and Closings

I think it is a given Kroger isn't about to move into a 50k square foot 27 year old store. Whole Foods could be a concern, or subdividing over to Sprouts. If they own both properties I don't think they will want to lease it to a grocery chain at all. Is Hobby Lobby still building stores LOL? For a ...
