Re: Article about Kroger as a possible buyer for Dominick's
Interesting indeed. I'm sure Kroger execs are literally salivating at the prospect of re-entering the Chicago market. The one drawback could be Kroger's apparent reluctance to buy chains that need a lot of work. From what I've read on the web (which--gasp!--might not be totally accurate), Dominick's...

Re: Super Targets by stealth?
Thanks to all who have replied. Yes, my local Target appears to have adopted the PFresh format--less of a selection than even pre-late 1960s supermarkets (although they do carry cremini mushrooms) so I can't see making it a regular destination. Now if they made it into a Super Target, maybe...

Re: Grocery chains in your area
In the Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky/Southeastern Indiana tri-state area we have: The top four: Kroger (The King--founded and based in Cincinnati) Wal Mart Supercenters Meijer biggs (regional chain owned by Supervalu) Other players: Remke Markets (employee-owned chain in Kentucky--Ohio locat...

Super Targets by stealth?
I recently received a flyer in the mail announcing that the Target near my home (suburban Cincinnati) will be offering "fresh" grocery items in the near future. The flyer featured pictures of aisles of fruits and vegetables but (1)stopped short of saying full supemarket service is in the p...

Re: Advice please: Dallas/Fort Worth area supermarkets
I recently learned that HEB stands for Here Everything's Better. Actually it stands for Howard E. Butt. The company was called H.E. Butt Grocery Company for a long time and then they started just going by the initials H.E.B. I would say we're both right. The HEB does come from the founder's name bu...

Re: Advice please: Dallas/Fort Worth area supermarkets
In D/FW, you have a long list of choices: Of course, you have Kroger, and they're fairly well entrenched in the area. Albertsons still has a decent presence, though not as big as before. Tom Thumb has a good number of stores as well, most of which are now adorned in Safeway's Lifestyle format. Also...

Advice please: Dallas/Fort Worth area supermarkets
This summer I'll be spending some time in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and will have the need to do some supermarket shopping. To those of you who are familiar with the chains in the area, which ones would you recommend? The biggest requirement I have is a store which sells Silk soy milk susbstitute (...

Re: Grocery chains in your area
Are they re-branding them 'Remke Markets', or 'Remke Biggs'? The store I've been to in Florence, KY is actually branded 'Remke Biggs'. They changed the exterior signage to have both logos, and the "Thank you for shopping..." banner inside the store. Not sure--if memory serves, the Florenc...

Re: Supervalu Exiting the Cincinnati Market
Marsh does have a handful of its Marsh Hometown Market stores in Greater Cincinnati. They were rebranded not too long ago from LoBills, which is Marsh's discount grocery imprint. But yeah, I don't think a major Cincinnati push is something Marsh is able or willing to do. I agree about the long term ...
