Re: The Fresh Market: Rick Anicetti, Chief Executive Officer, resigns
Fresh Market is proof positive that the c. 2008-2009 talk of "smaller grocery stores are the future" is just smoke and mirrors. While the industry is not going bigger and bigger and for the most part has largely eased off anything surpassing 70k square feet (with the exception of a few ch...

Re: Executive change at Acme reflects integration issues
Jim Perkins was put in charge of Acme right after Supervalu when Acme was rumored to be at the brink of closing (based on my observations of Acme, I never really felt the situation was as dire as it was being made out to be but there were certainly problems) and it seems under his leadership things...

Re: Star Market renovates four stores
I happened to be in Boston this past weekend and made a quick stop in the Allston store...(mainly stopped in while looking for beer, apparently no place sells take-out beer after 11 PM in this city?). Anyway, it was a very well done remodel and seems to be using a decor package similar to the latest...

Re: Is the Kroger Company in position for an acquisition in 2017?
Ahold Delhaize should get rid of the poison before Kroger catches it. That poison is Food Lion. Hannaford ended 2016 with 189 stores. The U.S. subsidiaries of Ahold and Delhaize did not merge, even though their parent company is Ahold Delhaize. It isn't a package deal by default. And I was referrin...

Re: Amazon to purchase Whole Foods for $13.7Billion
From CNN Money: Walmart gets 53% of its sales from food, groceries and things like household cleaning products, according to GlobalData Retail. Target gets a third of its sales from those categories. Walmart I could believe due to changes in market demand for some things they sell (apparel, housewa...

Re: Aldi fires $3.4 billion shot in US supermarket wars
I think that is how Aldi is viewed in most markets, as a competitor to other discount stores rather than to conventional stores. I don't think it is considered a conventional supermarket competitor anywhere. Well, maybe by Wall Street Analysts... All I know is from my observations, Aldi stores in m...

Re: Walgreens Close To Buying Rite Aid
They did the same 'wasteful' thing with Acme too, which made zero sense as unless you happened to be from the West Coast, 'Sav-On' had zero meaning in this region. (Further East, I believe some Shaws became Shaws-Osco, which at least made some sense as I believe Osco had stores in that region at one...

Re: Radio Shack liquidating?
What is the rationale behind keeping 72 mostly Northeastern US stores open? Why were these few dozen stores deemed viable while all the others were expendable? I'm not sure about TX or CO, but the only thing I can think of is that the presence of brick & mortar Sprint locations in the Northeast...
