Re: Fry’s Electronics on Life Support

No surprise here. Real tech geeks aren't buying things in a store anyway unless they need instant gratification. MIcroCenter seems to do well because their stores are smaller, very spread out, and they pack a lot into them. Fry's OTOH, just seems like they are way too large for the amount of merchan...

Re: Dollar Tree Raising Prices

If Dollar Tree can start bringing in some better merchandise I could see them doing OK with raising some prices. If they start raising prices on the cheap disposable junk they're selling now they're in trouble. The problem is with continued economic turmoil, even the cheap junk is going to cost Dol...

Re: Kroger May Sell Off Its Convenience Store Chains, Including Kwik Shop, Tom Thumb, Turkey Hill

Edit: The Turkey Hill URL now redirects to an EG page still showing Turkey Hill, but the address is now minitmarkets.com. Makes me think that at the very least, the Turkey Hill branding might be dropped in the future.

Re: Kroger May Sell Off Its Convenience Store Chains, Including Kwik Shop, Tom Thumb, Turkey Hill

I have my hunch that EG is about to dump the Turkey Hill chain. There have been reports of their loyalty program not working for weeks and gift cards weren't able to be redeemed, and tons of complaints from employees about hours cut to the bone and stores were running out of basic supplies for thing...

Re: Safeway Mid-Atlantic Remodels

I was surprised how much better the Acme I went to up in DE was, than the DC/VA Safeways I went into. Acme had better mix throughout the store and better pricing. That's pretty shocking, as Acme further into the Philly area has awful Safeway-esque pricing..they continue to lose a lot of market shar...

Re: JCPenney Stops Accepting Apple Pay

I've noticed a lot of people use contactless payment methods at Costco as of late, but they attract a higher demographic of shopper, and a younger shopper that is more likely to have up to date gadgets to have those capabilities. (Contactless payments are eventually supposed to be rolled out to the...

Re: Costco opening its first "Business Center" in the Dallas area

Looking at the addresses of their other Business Center locations, at least some are in areas that don't seem like retail hotspots. I would imagine, though, that they are close to other businesses that supply unglamorous services and products, which would be where you expect to find something that ...

Re: Wawa

Wawa pretty much dominates the convenience store market in Southeastern PA and surrounding areas, and has been dominating the gasoline business in the area too. Old non-gas stores are quickly getting replaced (except in downtown areas of Philadelphia, and now in D.C., where they have gone back to op...

Re: Walmart observations

Poking around on the Walmart subreddit, looks like all locations are ditching fish over the next few months and the section will be replaced by refrigerated pet food. It's about damn time and absolutely horrific that they sold fish for as long as they had. Oddly enough, a nearby Supercenter that ope...
