Re: Couche-Tard Reportedly Getting Ready To Acquire Speedway

This valuation is nuts and 7-Eleven seems to be way overpaying but they are obviously desperate for a deal and desperate to show growth in the US. 7-Eleven is playing catch up for not acquiring as actively in the 00's. The real issue with 7-Eleven is its network being primarily franchised and prima...

Re: The Future of Buffets, Salad Bars, and Self Serve?

I've noticed Giant supermarkets (PA) have returned to self-serve, non-individually packaged bakery donuts and muffins and such.

I also saw a picture in another group of a ShopRite that opened up their self serve salad bar again...I wonder how long that will last.

Re: Stores Returning to Regular Hours

They closed down the auto centers, because they were very unprofitable. They require expensive auto workers and create all sorts of insurance liability. No one that I know has ever received timely or satisfactory service at their auto centers. They are nothing but trouble. I believe that August 3 i...

Re: JC Penney Files For Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Protection

Looks like JCPenney might be toast if this happens. 250 stores to be rebranded and merged with Belk, and the rest to be shuttered.

Re: Burger King Discontinues Slices of Apple Pie & Declares Christmas in July

And this is the first I've heard of BK having apple pie on the menu...it couldn't have been that great of seller. I thought all they had was those prepackaged Hershey's pies.

Re: Acme Wynnewood closing

Perhaps Giant replacing the former Genuardi's locations is a real estate play so they can control the former Genuardi's site as well as their new store to prevent another Shop Rite from opening up. It's possible as Giant has done that with locations in the past, but here it simply seems to be more ...

Re: Acme Wynnewood closing

Acme's pricing isn't the best That is quite the understatement. Besides an occasional decent loss-leader sale, Acme's prices are the absolute worst, even worse than Whole Foods when comparing similar items. It is absolutely mind-boggling as being part of one of the largest chains in the Nation that...

Re: Rite Aid changes logo

According to Rite Aid's earnings call recently they will be changing all exterior signage on all stores by the end of this year. However they only plan to remodel 25 stores into their "new format" between now and the end of the year. What a colossal waste of money. I'd rather see them take the mone...

Re: Rite Aid changes logo

This week the Rite Aid 75% off sale extended to the automotive category. It appears the only items left will be those little tree air fresheners and windshield washer fluid. I was going to buy some motor oil-they had full synthetic that I would have used at only 2.24 per quart which was a great dea...
