Re: Save Mart "temporary closure" Reno, NV Keystone Ave.

I hate to sound this way, but with a name like "Save Mart" I'm not expecting much more than cleanliness and product that has not expired or spoiled. Given they closed the store temporarily, I'm wondering if they were staying one step ahead of the local health department and/or there was a risk that...

Re: Signs of trouble at Target?

The sodas and Icees were very affordable and it was nice to have a drink while shopping. It just will not be the same. At least one Target here (which started with just a store food court, no Pizza Hut or other brands) was re-done a while back as Starbucks, but still has the soda machine (and I'm t...

Re: Rite Aid Conversions or Closings

It does seem to be somewhat confusing. For example here in NY (where a bit less than 1/2 the stores were sold to Walgreens), waited until November to convert another store (which is RIGHT NEXT DOOR, across a side street from an existing Walgreens) but have not (as of yet) converted other Rite Aids ...

Re: Kroger sells Turkey Hill brand

No reason they couldn't sell off the brand but still carry the items. While it may have been owned by a retailer, we have lots of Turkey Hill items in stores up here in NY where there is no Kroger related store anywhere nearby.

Re: Target Self-Checkout

Ours not that far away (Albany area, including East Greenbush) are set up as standard self checkout like Brian describes, so no idea why yours is different. The only time I've seen stores do that is when the self check machines aren't working (like out of change or similar), but then when you get to...

Re: Washington Senate passes Plastic Bag Ban

The stores pay cardboard haulers to come and haul the boxes away I think they sell the cardboard bales, don't they? Not 100% certain but I seem to remember it working that way in the past. We didn't leave them outside because people would steal them in the middle of the night using pick up trucks. ...

Re: 08/14: 21 Kroger FoodsCo locations to stop accepting Visa Credit Cards

It is going to be businesses vs. Visa. I think at this point in the US there is still too much competition for the businesses to get together. There will always be "that other place" who doesn't join in and steals customers from all the ones who decide to join in and fight. And Visa can then go ano...

Re: 10 Years of RetailWatchers

Retail events of note that have happened in my neck of the woods in the intervening years: -Tops purchases the remaining Grand Union stores (renamed Grand Union Family Markets) from C+S Wholesale and rebrands them Tops thus retiring the Grand Union name which had been around since 1872. Interesting...

Re: Sears Fears: The Final Days of Sears & Kmart, 2019

But what gets me here is now it has surfaced that if Eddie's bid is accepted, he is already saying that they will close 3 Kmart Stores per month for the next year. I assume these are all lease expirations or something. What kind of a "go forward" plan is this? Typically you dump everything you don'...

Last night I stopped at Smiths and they had no limes. How does a store run out of limes?
They forgot there was a big televised sporting event today that everyone was making snacks for that use lime or lime juice? ;)
