Re: The Future of Buffets, Salad Bars, and Self Serve?

Self service food bars and buffets were allowed to open in Utah again under updated phased guidelines, but based on all the restrictions, if I were a restaurant owner I would probably pay 1-2 people to operate and plate the servings and bring them to diners tables. Doesn't seem too hard - people en...

Re: Dunkin' Donuts To Close 800 U.S. Locations

What is interesting about this is Dunkin is a virtually 100% franchise network. So are they kicking out 800 franchises, or are 800 franchises performing so poorly that they are going out of business? In the East, Dunkin is a very present and very popular brand. They have a reliable model to provide...

Re: McDonald's Closing 100 Walmart Restaurants

The Walmart closest to my house originally had a McDonald's inside, and a full restaurant out front. When Walmart remodeled, the in-store McDonald's went away, but the McDonald's out front is still open, as well as a Subway that is also out front. We had one in this area where there was an existing...

Re: The Future of Buffets, Salad Bars, and Self Serve?

The Chinese Buffet/Grill has reopened. From what I gather, you MUST sanitize, put on gloves and a mask upon entering, and wear a mask when you aren't at your table. Buffet is open but must wear a mask and gloves at it. Sounds easier to me to just stay with takeout... This is a very clean and higher...

Re: Burger King Discontinues Slices of Apple Pie & Declares Christmas in July

The Edward's pies were also found at Dollar Tree for $1. Why pay more at Burger King when you can get the exact same pie at a dollar store? Likely just the convenience of getting it if you were already there having other food. Just like you buy a cup of soda for what you could pay for a whole 2L bo...

Re: McDonald's Closing 100 Walmart Restaurants

In reading through the posts on this thread, Wal-Mart seems to have had a lot of franchise based restaurants operate in its stores over the years. Three have been mentioned here-McDonald;s, Subway and Dunkin Donuts. I also recall eating at a Wendy's in one of the local stores some years ago. Have t...

Re: JC Penney Files For Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Protection

So, it didn't seem like this worked for Stage by rebranding and retooling Stage's many stores with grand reopenings as Gordman's. That seemed to work OK, they just didn't have enough time to get established in most of these stores before they were closed down (with the virus restrictions), and appa...

Re: ALDI to add 70 new stores by next year

Aldi does sell some national brands -- Coke being one of them. They also have Cheerios and some key major brand items in other categories (meat, personal care, cleaning, etc.) They have also often done limited time offerings of name branded items when there was an option to get them cheap (overstoc...

Re: Turning up the AC in stores?

I too have experienced a Dollar Tree with no air conditioning. It was so stuffy that I thought I was going to pass out. They had malfunctioning air conditioning and were too cheap to fix it or took their sweet time on purpose. I have been in some rundown 99 Cent Only stores that are uncomfortably w...

Re: New Build Pavilions La Quinta Coming in 2021

It is also possible they want the gas station so someone else can't open a gas station in their parking lot and start undercutting the store's prices on liquor and cigarettes. Seems if it's their parking lot, they could just say we don't want a station there and then no worry about someone else bui...
