Re: JC Penney Files For Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Protection

The list of 242 store closures will supposedly be released on June 4. Liquidation sales will then start soon after. This makes sense. I wonder why previously they laid out a much longer timespan for the liquidation sales? I am guessing the completely in denial management has lost some control over ...

Re: Walgreens Resumes Normal Hours

Was out this morning on my usual weekly shopping trip and noticed a storage trailer in the parking lot of a local Walgreen's. The back of it was open and looked like it was full of panels of sheetrock so this store must be in the midst of a remodeling. My immediate area hasn't been effected by any ...

Re: Sprouts outlines strategy for future

It's actually surprising how much stores can fit in when they have to. There is a blog called Market Report, that mainly covers stores around the NYC area, and quite a number of those are well below the 30,000 Sq. Ft. range (in fact, some of them wouldn't be big enough to house an average drugstore ...

Re: McDonalds and re-opening inside

Everything has changed again. Now many McDonald's are going back to drive thru only. Take out is closed, and they are boarding up the windows. They do not want to let anyone inside. No one wants to take a chance with looters and robbers. I think it is a good time for restaurants to switch to bullet...

Re: Closed stores because of protests

Restaurants and grocery stores are not abiding by these curfews. There are curfews at 6 PM in Walnut Creek and San Leandro, California which are the worst hit cities. There are 8 PM or earlier curfews in most of the rest of the San Francisco Bay Area. Restaurants are still open and grocery stores a...

Re: Tuesday Morning Files for Bankruptcy

What was their limited hours gimmick? If I remember correctly, at one time they would have the store closed for a few days as a time to "restock" and then reopen, run for a number of weeks then repeat. Basically like they were saying buy what you see now, since it may not be there when we open up a...

Re: The Future of Buffets, Salad Bars, and Self Serve?

Also some thoughts on if self serve fro yo is now officially dead. I think self serve fro-yo could still work given the product comes out of an enclosed machine. They would need to go to some kind of dispensers for the toppings (similar to the "drop" bulk bins at WinCo or Whole Foods where product ...

Re: McDonalds and re-opening inside

I just looked at a website and McDonald's said they are beginning to open in some communities. I think with the chains, it has a lot more to do with corporate than whether the local or state ordinances are allowing dine in. Might also depend on which ones are run by the companies vs. ones run by fr...

Re: Coronavirus and Plastic Bag Bans

At this point these activist groups better just focus on even being allowed to bring reusable bags into the store again, let alone reinstating a plastic bag ban. Then there is the paper bag shortage issue... that is another problem. Not sure about all parts of the state, but here of the three chain...
