Re: Mervyn's Name Purchased

They might want to set up their new headquarters in the old Mervyn's headquarters and restart the chain from there. However, it will take a lot of money and ingenuity to restart an entire department store chain from scratch. If I were them I would start off with just one store. They should open one ...

Re: Whole Foods To Sell 13 Stores

Whole Foods is supposed to sell the store. It will continue operate as a supermarket, but under new owners. I don't know who would operate it. I assume it will be another organic grocer, but it could be a regular chain store. Maybe, Vons might want it. However, if it becomes a regular supermarket, m...

Re: Lucky Store Closing

In the Southland Mall case, that Lucky was so old that they decided not to renew the lease. That old store would have needed major repairs. The floor was in terrible condition. That one did not get much business because it was so old and small. Spending tons of money to fix a tiny store would not be...

Virgin Megastores Closing

Virgin has announced that their stores will be closing. I know that music stores have had it hard since people have been downloading music off of the internet for years. However, this does not explain the San Francisco Virgin Store. That store is packed with customers. San Francisco is a very touris...

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Whole Foods Market (WFMI) said Friday it will sell 13 stores to resolve the Federal Trade Commission's challenge against the grocer over its $565 million purchase of Wild Oats Markets. Whole Foods is putting 12 Wild Oats stores and one Whole Foods store up for sale. The stores a...

Re: Rite Aid's Future

I saw a few newer style Rite Aids. They looked like typical new Rite Aid builds. They were small stores located on street corners with the typical Rite Aid little square windows. Most of the other stores were store fronts in urban areas. I saw one converted movie theater that preserved the lighted t...

Re: Rite Aid's Future

I remember the Big Fizz soda bottles. When I first saw them, I thought that they were the biggest soda bottles ever! I bought them, and they were terrible tasting. They still carry Big Fizz, but the bottles have shrunk down to normal looking 2 liter bottles. I looked on Google Street view. There are...

Re: Longs Drugs Changing Into CVS

CVS seems to view large stores as a liability. The bigger the store is, the more rent they would have to pay. They feel that it is not worth it to have a large store. The CVS store above is quite big looking, but perhaps it is in an area where the rent is very low. If the rent is low in that area, C...

Re: Sears To Close 24 Stores

I can see that this chain is run by people who have no clue what they are doing. For this company to survive, entirely new leadership is needed. They need to get rid of the people at the top and bring in new people who will turn things around.

Re: Smiths remodels Dayton, NV Store

Who knows what is the priority when it comes to remodels. Maybe it is based on what the store manager recommends. One manager could complain that the store is rundown and a hazard, while another would not be as vocal. I can see that the decor is sort of like the next version of the decor seen in man...
