Re: Coronavirus Fears and Empty Supermarkets

In my observations here, toilet paper and paper towel supplies have been stable here for the past few weeks. I suspect that as the reopening continues a lot of stores are going to be overstocked for a while as people go through their stockpiles.

Re: Casinos Reopening

Tulalip Casino (a few miles from where I live) reopened on Tuesday, including some of the restaurants and bars inside the property (not sure if the buffet is included.) Hours and capacity are limited, masks are required for all guests and staff, and smoking doesn't seem to be completely banned, but ...

Re: Girl Scout Cookies being sold at retail

Washington doesn't charge sales tax on grocery items, so that's not a consideration in this case.

Re: Coronavirus and Empty Restaurants

The local Taco Bell here just recently reopened their lobby for takeout orders (they had previously been drive-thru only). Not too much unusual to report, just a sheld in front of the cash register and hand sanitizer stations. In my experience Taco Bells tend to heavily prioritize drive-thru traffic...

Re: BP gas stations return?

I believe BP stations are still relatively common in Florida, but haven't seen one outside of that area in a while. There used to be a number of them in the Pacific Northwest as well, but some time in the late Nineties they all became 76 stations at right around the same time.

Girl Scout Cookies being sold at retail

When visiting the local Bartell Drugs location to pick up a prescription today, I saw something rather unusual on the shelves:. Girl Scout Cookies. Since the Girl Scouts had to call off their annual sale early due to the pandemic (presumably leaving a large quantity of unsold inventory), it looks li...

Re: Specialty's Bakery folds

I'd take Panera Bread every single time over Specialty's though, I've just never been all that impressed with the Specialty's I've eaten at. The menus have been rather limited, execution is poor on a lot of occasions, and there's just little reason to eat there with any other reasonable alternatives...

Re: Meat shortages?

In general the stores here seem reasonably well stocked. The Safeway here looked pretty well stocked, and the Winco seemed to be in pretty good shape as well. Not sure about the Kroger stores (Fred Meyer and QFC) but I can't imagine they'd be in too much worse shape.

Specialty's Bakery folds

https://downtownbellevue.com/2020/05/17/specialtys-cafe-bakery-to-close-bellevue-and-nationwide Specialty's Bakery becomes another victim of COVID-19, and all locations will be shutting down as of May 19th.. No big loss to be honest, they had some decent baked goods but beyond that the menu was basi...

Why Americans don't understand Aldi

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=22z5A27jEXA This video came up on my YouTube recommendations, and highlights a lot of the differences (cultural and otherwise) between Aldi and typical American grocery stores. I'm not too familiar with Aidi since they don't exist in this area, but a lot of it seems t...
