Re: New Stater Bros. Riverside replacement store opening

I’ve noticed being in Southern California on vacation, that the grocery chains don’t advertise much on television. I’ve never seen a Ralphs ad (unlike in Phoenix where there is a Fry’s ad almost every 15-20 minutes…even on cable)and there was only a few Albertsons/Vons ads.

Re: "Local" - where did it go?

King Soopers’ West Colorado sister, City Market, is another story.

Re: Walmart observations

Online sales, plus they are the only mass retailer choice in many places, since Target won’t go into small towns, and Kmart is all but dead, all of the regional rivals like Shopko and Alco are gone.

Re: Bashas & Food Network

Bashas’ is non-union while Fry’s is union…that may be the difference.

Safeway’s cash cow in Colorado is the smaller towns, which are too small for/won’t let in Walmart. Their only other competitor in those Colorado mountain towns is City Market, which is an equivalent in store quality/design ( and is a cash cow for Kroger)

Re: Walmart Restrooms Closed, Porta Potties Brought In

Remember when gas stations locked their rest room doors and you had to get the key from the attendant? We may have to go back to that again.

Re: Quik Trip Denver- Open

QT doesn’t compete with other operators on fuel price (they used to be cheaper in Phoenix but not anymore-they are the same as Circle K (with the exception of that Easy Pay scheme CK runs here)

Re: New 7-11

The typical 7-11 problem….most of its stores are franchises, which means there is no quality control unlike the QTs, WaWas, which are company owned sites. And buying up Stripes and Speedway didn’t seem to help.
Expect their Japanese owner 7&i to possibly spin them off in the future.
