Re: Halloween Sell Through

The impression I get is with more and more people stuck at home people are spending more on Halloween for their own families and close social circles than they otherwise would. This includes decorations (my neighborhood has more decorations than it ever has) as well as candy and costumes. There is a...

Re: Amazon Fresh Irvine Now Open

It may be a game changer if they build 2,000 of them in the next few years. The press keeps getting it wrong regarding Amazon and grocery. A whole lot of hype every time they open one new concept store somewhere that it is the end for the conventional grocers, but few new stores seem to ever materi...

Re: Lifting of Coronavirus restrictions on restaurants

In S. Cali many restaurants have converted their parking lots to outdoor dining. Many cities have repurposed street parking to dining "parks". Congested areas like NYC have not faired to well with trying to repurpose space. Repurposed street parking? That seems like a very bad idea especially if it...

Re: Lifting of Coronavirus restrictions on restaurants

San Francisco has such low rates of coronavirus that the city is about to move to indoor dining at 50 percent capacity. This is better than anywhere else in the state. The rate of transmission in San Francisco is so low. What could be causing this? I would suspect that it is due to the enormous amo...

Re: Costco adding self-checkouts again

What other warehouse stores use self checkout? I went to a WinCo and it did not have self checkout. I believe that the store might have had self checkout years ago. As others mentioned Sam's Club does have them, and BJ's (in the Northeastern US, another club similar to Sam's or Costco) has them as ...

Re: Kroger "big announcement coming" on branding

City Market is a traditional grocery store, similar to Safeway. And when you go into a Fry’s, you know it is a Kroger all but in name, even the handful of Fry’s branded items have the Kroger address. I think Kroger missed a golden opportunity in 1999 to simply rebrand the Arizona stores to the Krog...

Re: SteinMart Files for Bankruptcy.

I doubt that they target over-55s. Even though that group often has a lot of disposable income,--they don't buy a lot of new stuff. Something resembling fashion usually targets 18-49 year olds with more preference for the younger end. What they targeted and what they got may be two different things...

Re: Stores Returning to Regular Hours

Wal Mart has walked a TON of sales to other grocery competitors with this 8:30 PM closing time, in addition to over to Target. I cannot believe how busy Safeway, Smiths, Target, and WinCo locations are at 8:30 PM and up until past 10 PM. I guess Wal Mart finally realized they need to stop this and ...

Re: Turning up the AC in stores?

I've noticed that wearing a mask makes things feel warmer as well.

I know I want to spend as little time in a store as possible with a mask on.
