Re: Coronavirus Fears and Empty Supermarkets

At Sam's Club this afternoon (in Phoenix) the store was almost fully out of toilet paper, facial tissue, and paper towels. There was plenty of bottled water, however.

The HBA aisles and cleaning supplies aisles seemed fully stocked.

Re: 7-Eleven Opens Up More Evolution Stores

7-11 has a lot of problems with its franchisees and vise versa. I know in Phoenix most of the 7-11s-and there are very few here anymore-have stopped selling gas. Most places with legitimate c-store operators (like Quik Trip), 7-Eleven has been effectively killed off. They are few and far between. W...

Re: Marathon to acquire Andeavor (Tesoro)

Looks like Seven & i is in talks to buy Speedway. The Speedway stations could all be rebannered to 7-11.

Re: What exactly happened with Kroger?

I guess we will know in a few years what will happen with Kroger. I've been wrong about things before, but I did accurately predict when the first Albertsons and the old Safeway went the wrong way. The circumstances were much different and both were on weaker footing than Kroger. I think there is s...

Re: Macy’s 2020

From the looks of it Paradise Valley Mall in Phoenix and Park Place Mall in Tucson are on the endangered list.

Paradise Valley Mall is not surprising (I believe Macerich wants to redevelop the property) but Park Place Mall used to be a decent 2nd mall for Tucson.

Re: Costco closing Christown Spectrum store in Phoenix

It also had what I'd consider a "Sam's Club" merchandise mix (lower end products more reasonably priced) as opposed to the higher end mix found in most of the other stores in the area. I've never seen Costco carrying a lower priced mix in a single store. I've probably been to 75 Costco stores over ...

Re: Costco closing Christown Spectrum store in Phoenix

Since Costco tends to locate in affluent areas, I'm guessing the neighborhood around Christown has significantly declined since the Costco opened there in 2002. Yes and no. This store was a replacement for the original Price Club in the Phoenix Area (which is now a Costco Business Center). That sto...

Costco closing Christown Spectrum store in Phoenix

The Costco in the Christown Spectrum mall in Phoenix is set to close sometime later this year. There is no direct replacement in the general area. It appears that Costco is using the new store in Surprise, AZ (about 20 miles away) as the "replacement" for this store even though they have about 6 or ...

Re: J.C. Penney hires former Shopko executive to aid turnaround

They need to close a lot more than 6 stores. They are in real denial about their position. At the rate they are going and their finances, Sears may be in business longer than they will be. This is going to come to a quick dramatic end unless something changes real fast (either their sales trends an...
