Re: 33 JCPenney stores to close

Something tells me that these closures are nothing serious. If it were serious, there would be widespread closures. I assume that the vast majority of JCPenney stores will still operate even if they are making little profit. Breaking leases costs money and JCPenney has some leases that go back deca...

Re: Location of Albertsons Store Closure in Phoenix

There are several stores still in the Jewel Interior in the Phoenix area (in fact, most of the stores that are not in the LLC interior are in the Jewel Interior). Of the 1990 stores off the top of my head, this store is the only one in the LLC Interior. The stores at 5040 W Cactus in Glendale and 75...

Location of Albertsons Store Closure in Phoenix

I know that many of the local newspapers / news outlets elsewhere have confirmed the identities of the Albertsons store closures. Unfortunately, none of the local Phoenix outlets have done so, so I took upon myself to see if I could confirm the location. Without too much effort (I kind of had a hunc...

Re: Idaho Statesman article about Albertsons

In Phoenix, Albertsons is mediocre at best, in pricing and quality. Fry's and WM are cheaper, Bashas' has better baked goods and meat, Safeway has better private label items. Albertsons has improved a lot in pricing and quality in Phoenix. What does need to improve though is that it needs to renova...

Re: In Store bank branches closed at Fry's

Just wanted to update. Fry's has replaced the Bank of America branch at the 67th Ave. and Bell Rd. store (in the 1st photo in the original post) with a US Bank branch.

Re: Bend Sears store closing

Lazy question but, are there Sam's Clubs in any of these places that Wal Mart is having a hard time getting into? I wonder if a better use of those club buildings would be to convert to a Wal Mart Supercenter, if so... Metro Detroit, MI was like this for years (1993 - early 2000s). A nice store bas...

Re: Is Safeway going to unload the Vons division?

Too much too fast for Cerberus in my opinion. I hate to think this could all be a real estate play to "carve up" both chains and basically just push good grocery real estate off to stronger regional players and the bad real estate off to whoever will take it. Who are the "stronger regional players"...

Re: Albertsons TV ads

I was in an intermountain division store tonight and the jingle about the meat department was playing in between the usual canned music. Seemed a little out there to hear that jingle, but certainly better than the generic announcements Supervalu used to make between songs in-store. They've come far...
