Re: Publix Debuts New Decor and Uniforms

Personally, I find this package to be weaker than what they previously used. All it really seems to do is capitalize on the neutral color trend that many retailers use nowadays. I prefer the previous décor for how homely and colorful it looked for Publix. On the bright side though, this package is s...

Re: State of Food Lion in the Washington D.C. area

If you look at what Ahold has done with Giant one will note that any store with older or very old decor has been closed. The only exception is the University Mall store near George Mason University. It got a demo and rebuild as a part of the shopping center renovations. But even that project happen...

Re: It has finally arrived: Raleigh, NC Wegmans location opens

Wegman's has a vested interest in pharmacy, health and wellness. Either Wegman's is understaffed in pharmacists, or its pharmacy operation is planning how to grow. That's interesting, I don't necessarily I rarely see pharmacy customers at my Wegmans - maybe once every shopping trip or so. My theory...

Re: It has finally arrived: Raleigh, NC Wegmans location opens

Wegman's does have a pharmacy permit issued by the North Carolina Board of Pharmacy. It is oversight to open without a major department. Interestingly enough some of the latest Wegmans have omitted pharmacies - those being the Medford, MA and Virginia Beach, VA locations. I'm guessing this is due t...

Re: State of Food Lion in the Washington D.C. area

A relevant update to this story - the Haymarket, VA store is closing: https://www.princewilliamtimes.com/news/haymarket-food-lion-to-close-oct/article_7c72679a-e44e-11e9-ab4a-373669fe2d33.html This store likely suffered with the plethora of grocery options in the area (including a Walmart across the...

Re: Lowe's "Appliance-Centric" Store

After OSH separated from Sears (Sears owned OSH), they had to continue to pay residuals to Eddie Lambert as part of the separation agreement. Those payments were to much for OSH forcing them into bankruptcy. Lowe's purchased them out of bankruptcy, mostly because they wanted a larger presence in Ca...

Re: Lowe's "Appliance-Centric" Store

I'm not so sure I agree with your conclusion. OSH was losing money. Eddie Lambert bled cash out of them but they were breakeven at best thus the original BK filing. Lowe's bought them, infused cash in them and the stores till lost money. OSH as a chain was a failure with too high prices. The places...

Re: NoVA Harris Teeters reducing hours

It’s not just the Northern Virginia and Maryland stores that are cutting their operating hours; most of the NC stores I’ve seen have cut their operating hours as well. This strikes me more as a a Kroger corporate move since Kroger has been shedding 24 hour stores themselves. That's surprising, some...

Re: NoVA Harris Teeters reducing hours

The one in the Ballston area of Arlington was still open 24 hours a few months ago... I wasn't out past midnight though so cannot comment on traffic. I don't think Wegmans will hurt HT much in DC unless they are in very close proximity. The HT operation in DC is already pretty unimpressive (straigh...

Re: NoVA Harris Teeters reducing hours

Wegmans in that area are not 24 hour stores? Not that I know of in this area. Most of the stores I know operate from 6 AM-midnight, 7 days a week. That's only one hour shy of Harris Teeter's new schedule. This seems to be common with what has happened in other Kroger divisions. 24 hour stores have ...
