Re: "Entire Aisles are Empty" @ Whole Foods

The thing that I wonder is how you integrate a high end retailer who wasn't afraid to spend money to get money into a company that is all about speed, efficiency and reduction of cost to bring the theoretical best price to the consumer. I do agree that it might be a bit early to pull the fire alarm ...

Re: More Layoffs at Walmart

Walmart swiftly fixes problems. They always have. They don't let mistakes linger, and they learn from them. Sam's as a whole is profitable. Cutting HQ jobs is normal, as they automate more of the company and remove the fat. Keep in mind; the lower overhead at the top, the lower prices can be at the...

Re: Ahold Delhaize creates Ahold Delhaize USA

Wasn't Martin's a fairly perimeter-heavy format? I can only imagine what Food Lion did to the perimeters... It is my feeling that Martins was perimeter heavy because Ukrops was perimeter heavy. At the time of the buyout Ukrops was beloved by folks who had been around Richmond for a long time. It wa...

Re: Kroger partners with Chase for contactless (mobile) payments

Chase might be the wrong partner for Kroger but I think the concept of having a captive payment system is about getting more data on consumer behavior. I'm going to assume that the customer downloads an app and somehow that app has your payment info and possible loyalty card entered into it. You pay...

Re: Ahold Delhaize creates Ahold Delhaize USA

Evidently, Food Lion is doing something right, because they're still around. They aren't shrinking at the same rate as, say Southeastern Grocers. Yeah, I don't think Food Lion is doing that bad. Their prices are reasonable, and definitely lower than most competitors in the areas in which they opera...

Re: Albertsons NorCal change

Have there been any visible changes in operations? I'm in the Washington DC area. I've noticed over the past few months that Safeway has had a huge increase in the amount of random displays junking up the aisles and the big pallets of random stuff along the back aisle where there is typically more ...

Re: Acme president appointed to head Safeway East

What exactly is Albertsons attempting to do here? Turn Safeway into Acme? Acme into Safeway? Combine the two? As others have said none of those seem like a good idea. Ask Ahold about their experiences when they combined Giant-MD with Stop and Shop...

Re: A Lidl too spread out?

A Lidl location finally opened within a reasonable distance from my house. As a pretty dedicated Aldi shopper I wanted to take a peek at what Lidl was all about. A few observations from what I saw: - Pricing is all over the place even on Lidl store brands. Some pricing is rock bottom like Aldi, othe...

Re: DC City Council Member "surprise inspection" of Safeway

How do you fix the problem? Merchandise and price appropriately to the neighborhood. Do whatever it takes to bring more customers in to the specific location. Inner DC is not the suburbs but there are lots of people there who all need to eat. So if the inner city location is perhaps not near fast f...

Re: DC City Council Member "surprise inspection" of Safeway

Safeway runs stores from pretty nice to chronically mediocre bordering on bad in the DC area. The issues have existed for a long time and though better under Albertsons they still aren't where they should be. The problem is that in DC proper Safeway has the largest presence and in some areas they ar...
