Re: Signs of trouble at Target?

The downtown Portland Target inside the Galleria building just filed paperwork with the city to downsize their store. Currently they have a Starbucks on the ground floor and escalators leading to the store on the 2nd and 3rd floor. They now want to downsize the store only the ground floor, taking t...

Re: Signs of trouble at Target?

The idea that urban locations need to cater to car owners is mostly nonsense. People have more than buses esp. with the advent of ride sharing services. The DCUSA store in Columbia Heights is reputedly one of the highest volume/square feet stores in the chain. It's smaller than the typical suburban...

Re: Starbucks

Today Starbucks announced they will be closing 400 US locations over the next 18 months. I am noticing heavy promotion for Safeway Starbucks (25% off, $1 off, etc.) the past couple months on the app, as well as in-store PA announcements. I am also noticing 20% off Target Circle offer for in-Target ...

Re: JC Penney Files For Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Protection

I sometimes wonder if Kohl’s would or could try to take over some JCPenney locations? I know Kohl’s doesn’t normally locate in malls but yet they do have some mall based locations. I am sorry to see the Salem Center location go as that now means that the mall will only have Macy’s as the anchor. Th...

Re: JC Penney Files For Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Protection

As I suspected, some of the malls owners may try to save JCPenney. It might be cheaper in the short run to attempt to save JCPenney than spend the money to redevelop the properties in this environment. Under one scenario being explored, Sycamore, Brookfield and Simon would join forces on a bid for J...

Re: Closed stores because of protests

The Target in downtown Portland got looted. It's closed and boarded up now. But so are the downtown locations of Nordstrom Rack, Apple, CVS, Nike, 7-11, and many smaller shops, Plus Pioneer Place mall got smashed and looted

Re: JC Penney Files For Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Protection

Amazon has no idea or real interest in brick & mortar industry. For instance, Amazon Books is run by website algorithms and isn't particularly deep...looking at the photos, it resembles more of an expanded airport "bookstore" than a real bookstore. The article goes into that. I have no idea how acc...

Re: Coronavirus Fears and Empty Supermarkets

I have noticed many items that are made in China have been out of stock for a long time. There is a shortage of bandages, towels, and many other items. Are the factories in China still closed, or is China just not shipping anything out due to our disputes with them? The factories are open but are s...
