Re: Is 2021 finally the end for Sears/Kmart?

Wow, sounds like quite a bit has changed then even in the last 3 years. My local Kmart went out in Feb 2018. It was still stocked like a typical Kmart - tools, garden dept, toys, Kmart's usual line of clothing, hardware, household, appliances, electronics, etc. Basically the same full line you'd see...

Re: Belk

Stopped by Belk again today. Things did not look much better. Still low inventory levels throughout, a lot of white wall space showing and spaced out displays. It was a Saturday afternoon and I did not even see anyone actively browsing, just a few people passing through from the mall entrance. Beall...

Re: Best Buy Layoffs

Oh I see, so pretty similar to Circuit City then.

Re: Sonic in a former Taco Bell

A new Sonic opened in Reno recently on S. Virginia Street. It has two buildings- the main building with the kitchen and drive through, then a patio then in front of that a little building for dine in. For dine in you still order via a speaker and there is no order counter. If you need anything else...

Re: Is 2021 finally the end for Sears/Kmart?

Sounds to me like Kmart is now just a store of consumables supplied by a third party and clothing and towels supplied by a liquidator, and little more. So essentially the sign says Kmart, but nothing inside is the same as it was 10+ years ago. Kmart is basically out of business except for the name, ...

Re: WD Issues

Agreed, you do have to admit though, aside from holding some old stores, they have been putting more effort into updating things than Sears and Kmart ever did in the last 25 years! I have been surprised that despite changing course too many times instead of focusing on one thing, WD has not given up...

Re: Best Buy Layoffs

I've never been to a Best Buy. Are they like a high end electronics and appliance store, with nice displays and showroom style atmosphere? I'm picturing them as being something similar to Currys in the UK. Or like The Incredible Universe was in the 90s?

Re: Sonic in a former Taco Bell

Decided to try this place again tonight. I've been a few times this winter, and generally go inside to order because I have not had good luck with the card reader in the drive thru window. I noticed nobody was inside at all so I thought maybe the dining room was closed so I went through the drive th...

Re: WD Issues

If I wanted to write a book about WD, this type of experiment would be at the top of my list. They often remodel one or two stores nicely, or build a couple, but that's where the upgrades like them typically end. The vast majority of the store fleet continues to be neglected. While they've made a l...

Re: WD Issues

One thing I've noticed about Winn-Dixie is, and this could just be the overall nature of the stores and a lack of effort since the Marketplace days, but most of the chains out there (Kroger, Albertsons, H-E-B, Publix, etc.) have developed their stores to be a jack of all trades, you can have a some...
