Re: WD Issues

Lately WD has been coming out with a concept of new, smaller stores, which have opened in a few locations in FL. These stores also have a new decor package which ties into the red and white package but is more colorful with greens, and other colors. I'm guessing this will be yet another one of WD's ...

Re: The Future of Buffets, Salad Bars, and Self Serve?

There are 3 buffets in my area. A Golden Corral, a Chinese, and another independent country style buffet. The Golden Corral for a while was offering carry out or table service with a small selection of meals from a menu. They also gave away many meals because the food would otherwise have gone to wa...

Re: The Future of Buffets, Salad Bars, and Self Serve?

I think a full return of buffets and self service food will be in large part to whether or not masks and social distancing are permanent or not. At this point it's hard to say what will happen. There is also a big discrepancy between how even national businesses are running from state to state. Some...

Re: Walmart observations

Walmart's softlines are pretty good overall. They have some good prices if you just want plain basic things like Fruit of the Loom hoodies or T-shirts, or need work wear items. I buy most of my socks and underwear there since they seem to have the best prices on 6 or 8 packs, rather than pay $20 for...

Re: Is 2021 finally the end for Sears/Kmart?

I agree, I don't see the point of this, especially given Kmart is not a full service retailer anymore. Eddie must be trying to get every penny he still can, but I don't see how there are any pennies to be made anymore. Lately I've noticed some of the more popular Sears lines transitioning to be sold...

Re: Burger King $1 Menu

Many of the older 70s and 80s iconic Pizza Hut locations in my area have moved into new strip mall shopping center locations in the last couple of years. They are mainly carryout operations similar to Domino's or Little Caesar's. Very little seating in a small space. The full service one in my town ...

Re: Macy's 2021: 45 locations to close by the Summer

Kind of surprised about Port Charlotte Towncenter. I haven't been there in several years, but I was under the impression that was a very good upscale location. If they couldn't make it there it makes me wonder how many closures are to come. Of course, PCT could be well in a decline these days.

Re: Burger King $1 Menu

Before the virus happened, I used to get one of BK's "cheap meals" once a week or so. There have been a few variants in the last few years. I think the first was a burger, fries, drink and a cookie for something like $3. Later it became a small bacon cheeseburger, fries, chicken nuggets an...

Re: Belk

It does seem like Belk is the remaining anchor at many southern (small) malls. Then again, stores like Mervyn's or Kohl's anchored strip centers for years. That is certainly the case at this mall right now. Bealls is the only other remaining anchor. The usual suspects - Kmart, Sears and JCPenney ha...

Re: Belk

I haven't been real happy with the private equity owned retailers in general. But I have been impressed how long certain retailers have been kept in business under private equity that probably would have gone under much sooner, had they not gone to private equity. One that comes to mind is Shopko. ...
