Re: Pet Valu closing all US Stores- liquidation sales start immediately

Of course, this area we have trucks that drive house to house anyway, so it's not the issue you mentioned in another post about being parked "down the block" trying to get a big package to someone (they will even back right into a driveway if the package is larger or multiples). I was a city carrie...

Re: Coronavirus Fears and Empty Supermarkets

Around here, supplies are actually pretty good. Hand sanitizer, soap, masks and paper products are quite plentiful. I've even been able to buy one liter bottles of Purell two out of the last three weeks. Interesting thing about Purell too is it's only consistently been available at Target lately. I...

Re: Private label products being sold at other chains

Was there a lot of the O Organic product? I've seen instances in the past of a one-off item at Walmart (e.g. a bottle of Meijer-branded vitamins) that I suspect is a derivative of somebody convincing customer service to accept it as a return. My local Kohl's has numerous J Ferrar products right now...

Re: Pet Valu closing all US Stores- liquidation sales start immediately

One shipper who seemed to do a really good job with their boxes actually holding up during transit was Chewy. I had a few customers who ordered from them and those cartons were very sturdy and secured properly. But I've been retired for a couple years now and while the parcel avalanche had begun th...

Re: Friendly's Files For Bankruptcy

I wondered why Safeway NorCal discontinued the Friendly's Sundae Cups. Perhaps unrelated as I would expect the Friendly's brand to live on for ice cream after the bankruptcy is figured out even if the restaurants do not. The 2.50 price point they had was pretty steep given those are a dollar store ...

Re: Sears/Kmart: Will 2020 be the end?

Christmas stuff is one area where brand names don't really matter, especially for something being used for only a month out of the year. But to be doing away with brand names in other areas is a bit troubling. I don't think they are 'doing away' with brand names per se. I think it's more likely non...

Re: Halloween Sell Through

Probably all of the above, plus some people who just like candy and if they see it advertised (particularly a good price) buy it that way rather than the "regular" version on the shelf nearby.

Re: Coronavirus Fears and Empty Supermarkets

There seems to be a major oversupply of masks and hand sanitizer everywhere. Wal Mart is clearancing some of these items and Smiths has been running "buy one get one free" on masks and hand sanitizers the past couple weeks. Cannot believe stores like Walgreens trying to get $25 for a box of 50 mask...

Re: "American Customer Service Index" rates Albertsons last

Kind of reminds me of how Consumer Reports does their supermarket issue, and the different brands of Kroger and Albertsons are/were all over the map. I guess that Waldbaum's being traditionally in the bottom three was a sign of things to come, but so was Walmart. It really meant nothing (especially...

Re: Costco adding self-checkouts again

What other warehouse stores use self checkout? I went to a WinCo and it did not have self checkout. I believe that the store might have had self checkout years ago. As others mentioned Sam's Club does have them, and BJ's (in the Northeastern US, another club similar to Sam's or Costco) has them as ...
