Re: Wendy's replacing older locations with new buildings

Storewanderer, the local papers briefly covered the closing of the Wendy's restaurants in Eugene, Springfield, Corvallis, Albany and The Dalles. No one wanted to say explicitly what happened. According to the Eugene Register Guard, the owner "failed to meet certain basic obligations of his Wend...

Jackson, Wyoming, Walgreen's

Walgreen's fought for years and years to be able to build a new store in Jackson, Wyoming. In January 2014, Walgreen's finally managed to open a new store on the main drag through town. This store was just down the street from the local drug store, Stone Drug. A vocal contingent of locals rallied in...

Re: Radio Shack liquidating?

I was in the Corvallis, Oregon, and Albany, Oregon, stores on Saturday. I have been told that the Corvallis store is one of their better stores. It was not having a going out of business sale. There were lots of empty shelves, however, and you definitely get the feeling that the store hasn't gotten ...

Re: Haggen begins conversion of former Safeway/Albertsons st

Submariner, I think that pictures from the Carlsbad, California, and Monroe, Washington, Albertsons-to-Haggen conversions got mixed together in that slideshow. The "Northwest Fresh" graphic might be outside the Monroe store -- I'm not sure.

Re: Albertsons / Safeway to Divest 168 stores

I am very curious what Associated is going to do with those stores in Montana and Wyoming. It's also interesting that Kroger didn't end up with a few of them. I know that Smith's was not successful with most of the stores it bought in Montana and Wyoming with the Albertsons / Buttrey deal, but I thi...

Sears in Albany, Oregon, to close

Another Sears is biting the dust. The store in the Heritage Mall in Albany, Oregon, will be closing in January, according to this article: http://democratherald.com/news/local/albany-sears-to-close-in-january/article_da9a527a-555f-11e4-b913-53fb540cb857.html This is the closest mall for about 125,00...

Re: Elko Albertsons - Remodeled

I remember when SuperValu was running these stores and finally got religion on pricing, they said they would be making an "investment in pricing" that would take something like nine months to implement, as I recall. There is clearly something about retail that I am struggling to understand...

Re: Albertsons Twin Falls- remodeled (sort of)

As I recall, that store had retained the 80s décor for a long time because they were discussing building a new store nearby. It still had the 80s décor (pre blue-grey) when I stopped in about five years ago. Supervalu certainly wasn't building many new stores as they were fighting to stay solvent, a...

Re: Burger King in talks to buy Tim Horton's

Alpha, your statement that this deal "is all about avoiding paying taxes" is very likely not correct. With respect, I really wish you would check your facts before you make such broad statements because they detract from the dialogue on this site. I don't doubt that taxes had something to ...

Re: Chubbuck, Idaho, Sears closing

Super S, I didn't realize that this store had been converted to mostly hard-lines. The press reports said that it employed only 28, which seemed very low to me, even for a Sears store. But if they were selling hard-lines only, that number makes more sense. For what it's worth, that Pocatello mall ha...
