Re: Radio Shack to close 1,100 stores
http://kwgn.com/2014/03/04/radio-shack-closing-1100-stores-after-reporting-sales-fell-19/ I don't suppose this comes as much of a surprise really. I have no idea how the place has managed to stay in business for so long. Apparently the store in the picture with that article was really having troubl...

Re: The slow death of Quizno's ?
In general, most of the remaining Sbarro locations around here tend to be mall food court locations, often one of 10 or more choices available (typically at malls where there isn't a Sbarro there's Villa Pizza, which is pretty much just as generic.) Aside from those, I think there's a few in airpor...

Re: New Skippers location
Looking at the Skippers website, it seems that they are now listing a bunch of so-called "go fleet" locations (mostly gas stations, it appears) serving a limited menu, and in some cases it looks like they might be serving only chowder. I see one listed in Redmond, I might go check it out....

Re: Burgerville implements rewards card
The fish issue makes some sense - when McDonalds started coming up with a fish sandwich in the 1960's the original franchisee that had the idea started out using Halibut. Once the company decided to expand fish into other stores, one of the first things done was to switch (to Cod at the time) since ...

Re: The slow death of Quizno's ?
As for Sbarro, now there's a place that I have no idea how they manage to stay in business. That place is so generic it's ridiculous. Maybe that many of them are in places where choices are limited (like on the highways - maybe a choice of them and a Burger place or such)? Therefore not as much to ...

Re: Safeway Confirms Sale Talks...
I bought some OTC Equaline item up at Albertsons in Oregon and was surprised to see the "Distributed by Albertsons Inc." on the package. Maybe it was just old merchandise. The Equaline soap had Supervalu. Equaline Cotton Swabs also distributed by Albertsons Inc. This would also be a good ...

Re: K Mart 2014 Store Closings
Just heard on the local news that two more area stores are closing by May: Clifton Park and Latham. And as per usual, the reason given was non-renewal of the lease. This is getting old if you ask me. I think that only leaves East Greenbush (Rensselaer) and the one in the Rotterdam Square Mall withi...

Re: CVS Ending Tobacco Sales
Target did the same thing a long time ago, and it makes sense if sales are falling and you have to take extra measures against theft by keeping tobacco behind the counter. Not to mention all the extra rules to deal with about selling it (which also has something to do with it being behind the count...

Re: K Mart 2014 Store Closings
I heard a news account this evening that said there were six area locations left. A quick check of the store locator on their website identifies the sixth store as being Greenwich. I always forget that one being out there - probably one of those spots where they do OK due to lack of other retail in...
