Re: A deeper look into dollar stores....
The podcast was interesting. I'm impressed at the breadth of thinking that went into looking at dollar store operation and their anticipating inevitable defenses based on pricing that's unsustainable. That Walmart was often a long-term liability to communities usually only sank-in when they left to ...

It's more than just getting out of malls (a lot of those stores will be Champs locations). They're making significant changes to their foreign operations and going in more new directions then described in the first link https://footwearnews.com/2023/business/retail/foot-locker-closing-stores-1203434...

It's a small store in secondary shopping area, originally built for Strouss' which was the local May chain. I'm surprised it didn't close long ago.

Re: Corner Bakery Files For Chapter 11 Bankruptcy
The urban oriented fast casual restaurant chain is suffering from office workers still working at home. It has 140 locations in 19 states. https://chainstoreage.com/corner-bakery-cafe-files-bankruptcy I'm disappointed by this. Panera serves microwaved, batch prepped, and/or boil in bag cafeteria gr...

Re: Nordstrom exiting Canada
Hudson's Bay has been in trouble for quite awhile. They've closed flagships in the western provinces and are now owned by the same guy who owned and liquidated Lord & Taylor, so there's a fear that they will hollow it for real estate. They probably benefited from the demise of Eaton's which over...

Re: Target closing 2 Washington DC Area Stores
Uhm,.....I went to the trouble of finding a link and looking for where the stores were:https://bestlifeonline.com/target-closing-locations-may-2023-news/ The DC stores aren't in DC or even close---one is near the University of Maryland and within a couple miles of 2 full-line stores. One is in a mal...

Re: Future Of Oil Change Business With Electric Vehicles
Google is your friend. It's not difficult to find reviews of this sector. Basically, sales have been more or less flat for about a decade, doing a little better in the runup to COVID. Car sales were pretty robust for most of that time and people keep cars longer which should mean these places are gr...

Re: Nordstrom exiting Canada
Getting back on topic, Canadian fashion is just not the same as American at all. Outside of Levi's I'm not sure of any major American fashion brand that is universally accepted. Flashy, blingy and trendy clothes tend to be light and cheaply made which doesn't fly in a place that is cold most of the...

Re: Nordstrom exiting Canada
Nordstrom's main competitor in Canda would be Holt Renfrew (owned by Weston, the parent of Loblaw), which has closed multiple stores in the few years and went in/out of the off-price business. Makes me wonder if their sector is part of the problem for them in Canada. Saks opened 2 stores in Toronto ...
