Re: Shopko closing 39 stores
It is interesting they were able to reverse the decision to close Bonners Ferry. Maybe the money from the pharmacy sales are allowing them to prop things up a while longer. Or they had a good holiday season (I hope...). What is interesting though is how they decided to keep Bonners Ferry open while...

Re: Sears/Kmart Death Watch 2018
i think the hometown stores need to be rebranded next year. it would be best to steer clear from the sears name after it liquidates. Some of the Hometown stores (even though they are independently owned) have seen sales drop since Sears filed for bankruptcy. I think it would make sense to rebrand t...

Re: Shopko closing 39 stores
It looks like Shopko is also quietly closing another store in Boise: https://boisedev.com/news/2018/12/23/shopko-fairview-boise-closing-2019/?fbclid=IwAR3oQP_5gX-gYsxHC-ypb67ZVrb-tK97rXzZR2aLFiII_eXjDgqvbpBPYMs This one was not part of the original list. The article also mentions that they have chan...

Re: New Fred Meyer planned in Centralia, WA
The effects of the RTA tax vary, but in general it does add a significant amount to sales tax for people who live within the boundaries (as well as much higher car tab fees.) That said, there's no sales tax on groceries in Washington, so it wouldn't affect grocery shopping much anyway. As for the C...

Re: New Fred Meyer planned in Centralia, WA
This is frustrating as they open so few new stores... I seem to recall they had another site up near the border that also fell through after a couple years of "negotiations." It's not just Fred Meyer. Kelso was at one point poised to get a new development near exit 36 with several new sto...

Re: Kimco advertising on local TV
One year later, I have noticed that they have really stepped up the advertising for Vancouver Mall. I have seen a LOT of commercials on TV for that mall. It may be influenced by the fact that Sears just closed, but Clackamas Town Center also lost their Sears at the same time, and Washington Square i...

Re: Sears/Kmart Death Watch 2018
Today's Kmart visit showed continued deterioration at the store. This is supposedly one of the "safe" stores. There was an employee at the entryway asking if I had a "membership" and when I did not respond then tried to get me to sign up for a membership. Then, tried to sell me ...

Re: New Fred Meyer planned in Centralia, WA
From what I can tell, there could also be the possibility of using the Lewis County Mall site for a small Fred Meyer. I think there is a theatre there currently. But it is too bad that there is no Fred Meyer in Lewis County. It would make sense given the distribution center and prior history. I do ...

Re: New Fred Meyer planned in Centralia, WA
Looks like Fred Meyer has walked away: http://www.chronline.com/news/fred-meyer-ends-negotiations-with-centralia-station/article_989501ca-058e-11e9-8218-1b4a7dfc13ea.html The article talks about a lengthy permitting process, and mentions the area's flooding history. I wonder if they could make the o...
