Re: ALDI to acquire Winn-Dixie
Not sure I've ever seen a freestanding Trader Joe's.. I think there is one in the older middle part of Sacramento that is about 15 years old, that may be the only freestanding one I've ever seen. Save a Lot... is that chain even worth talking about? I did go into one back in IL; terrible mix and no...

Re: ALDI to acquire Winn-Dixie
I'd guess that a viable power center would have a Target with some amount of grocery or a Walmart super center, if not also a chain supermarket. An Aldi would be more likely to wind up in a dying power center or a small plaza. They also seem to have a lot of free standing stores and always have--the...

Re: WSJ: Rite Aid plans 400-500 store closures in pending bankruptcy filing
Eckerd was already beginning to flail under the JCPenney ownership, and while they were part of Rite Aid's eventual failure, it was a small part Eckerd was quite odd---they did OK in Nashville, despite a lot of competition and having stores that seemed poorly managed---things were always physically...

Re: Publix in Cincinnati?
Publix has been competing with Kroger since the 90s and have entered markets heavily dominated by Kroger before. The familiarity with Publix from snowbirds and the like would help them with any more northerly movement. Kroger's dominance is at least partly a function of its competition's stumbles (a...

Re: Shake Shack testing a new "sustainable" frying oil
This is isn't really meant to tap into the vegan market (which is small) as much as to be attractive to a broader market of people who want healthier options----veggie/vegan options usually have this broader market in mind rather than just vegetarians and vegans. They introduced non-dairy shakes ear...

Re: Kroger to merge with Albertsons?
A few things to consider: There are lots of large store operators on "the other coast". Shop-Rite, Big Y and others operate 80-100K sf stores, as do more specialized stores like Wegman's and Stew Leonard's. Shop-Rite has lots of very large stores---they're building an 85Ksf to replace one ...

Re: Harbor Freight ramping up TV/Radio ads
They're a growing, national chain that does e-commerce, so it makes sense. They've advertised on basic cable on and off for awhile, and their ads pop-up online pretty regularly.

Re: Red Robin Attempting Comeback
Are there any sit down restaurants where you order on a kiosk and there are no servers to take your order? They could switch to a model where you call for a server using the kiosk, but you order and pay using the Red Robin kiosk. Stacked , which had several locations pre-pandemic, had exactly that ...
