Re: Valley Center Albertsons canceled

There are government grants available to tribes to open businesses like this so it is possible they will get funding to build an entire "market" for free. These grants are often used for gas stations and smaller businesses. I found it interesting the article explicitly stated this will NOT...

Re: Aldi lists job openings at multiple warehouses and nearly 30 stores in Northern California

The freestanding west coast RIte Aids are around 18,000 square feet. That should be sufficient size for an Aldi but as ClownLoach points out you have the issues with the loading dock and other issues since those are not legitimate "grocery" buildings. Aldi continues to lease larger sites i...

Re: Phoenix grocery market share 2023: Fry’s gains share, Walmart share drops

I expect Wal Mart's store growth program to help them in Phoenix. Fry's has kept up well with new stores and a few new Safeways have opened too. When did the last Wal Mart open? Unfortunately, they have quite a few stores that are absolute dogs. During their next round of remodels they need to do m...

Re: Hy-Vee buying Strack & Van Til

If Hy-Vee is committed with its more southerly expansion, it may take a long time before they move beyond this chains current footprint. They might be aware enough of this that they set their sights on Indianapolis, instead, as it would be a link to their southern expansion. I think you hit it here...

Re: Review: King Soopers

I was actually at that store (visiting family in Colorado) back in January. I thought it was quite nice, and the Whole Foods a block away is really nice too. And agreed, it's very much like the other mainstream Kroger stores I've been to -- even not that different from the single Mariano's location...

Re: Review: King Soopers

That store had the weird entry thing going on a number of years ago when I was there. It was odd, I was on foot, and getting into the store was confusing for me as a first time customer. As I recall the only way in/out was right by self checkout which I think was by deli. I liked the Whole Foods a l...

Re: Stores that never were: Sacramento edition

Since Nugget Markets is headquartered in Woodland I expect Wal Mart was kept from expanding in an effort to protect the Nugget Store and the Food 4 Less Store there (franchised by Nugget). Safeway never got into Woodland in the 2000 era expansion around Sacramento area either; they had a site but i...

Re: Rubys "Shake Shack" opening in Reno

The developer is the former Raising Canes franchisee who developed out all of Nevada and Arizona for Raising Canes. These guys are very strong operators and their ability to build those two states out for Raising Canes, become the largest franchisee, then sell the u units all to corporate was quite ...

Re: Hy-Vee buying Strack & Van Til

Says it will run as a subsidiary and won't rebrand. Also it will keep using AWG?

Find that hard to believe.

Also didn't SVT have stores in IL? Now all are in IN?

Re: Valley Center Albertsons canceled

Knowing how Kroger is about new stores out west........ can't help but wonder if the developer got spooked about what may happen if Kroger got control here and decided to just sell the site. Plus Albertsons kept delaying and delaying which was odd as well. At least NorCal Safeway is continuing to de...
