Re: JCPenney to resume appliance sales
I've noticed that some Kohl's stores now have a service desk in the front, adjacent to the registers (where it can be used as a checkout lane if needed.) I always found it odd that Kohl's had their service desk in the back...I guess the idea was so shoppers see other merchandise on the way to make ...

Re: Albertson's loss = $437 million most recent year
. They found buyers for a few Genuardi's but generally let that chain die a slow death. The majority of Genuardi's stores went to Ahold/Giant(PA) (with about 3 or so going to Weis Markets), making Giant even more dominant in the Philadelphia suburbs than it already was. Giant tested the waters when...

Re: Signs of trouble at Target?
Add CVS to the list of chains with unmanned self checkouts. They don't even have an attendant station... quite a few SoCal CVS Stores with self checkouts. I wonder how much theft is taking place with these unmanned self checkouts in a region where stores have even low dollar items locked up... so f...

Re: New Grocery Chain To Sell Expired Food
Not very ethical to say the least. Here in NY, there are always stories about stores getting fined for having outdated product on their shelves. Some stores have even put up signs telling customers to inform management if they find outdated product being offered for sale. With all that being said, ...

Re: The Great Grocery Consolidation of the 21st Century
The grocery business has changed tremendously, even in just the last 10 years, and today, it's 'kill or be killed'. There have been a multitude of new shopping trends....a lot of people no longer do a big 'once a week' grocery trip, but pick up things here and there. A lot of people tend to eat out ...

Re: Haggen to "close or sell" some stores- 5 AZ, 16 CA, 1 WA, 5 OR
I went back to my post. I posted it on April 28. Wow, so was I witnessing theft? Haggen may have a case. Not necessarily. I'm sure Haggen didn't want or buy certain fixtures/merchandise in the new stores, so Albertsons/Vons took them out before Haggen moved in. Now if they took more out than they w...

Re: Haggen to "close or sell" some stores- 5 AZ, 16 CA, 1 WA, 5 OR
Does this really surprise anyone? They went from a small 18 store or so chain (was larger but they already had issues with some of their stores and had to close a bunch a few years ago) to one with over 150 stores in a completely unfamiliar area. How in their right mind did they expect to survive wi...
