Re: New Jersey Ban On Paper Bags, Single Use Plastic Bags, & Plastic Food Containers
There is no credible evidence to suggest re-usable bags are a health risk to cashiers. That's silly. Handling cash is much worse than re-usable bags and cashiers have been doing that for hundreds of years. Many cashiers and UFCW locals disagree with you as it is unknown at this point if the re-usab...

Re: Walmart+
I've been surrounded by a lot of Walmart+ ads recently. They don't lay out what it means, other than it is "a different kind of membership program" or something close to that in messaging for now. I suppose the idea is that if you were a Walmart shopper (especially Walmart.com) you'll stu...

Re: Kroger "big announcement coming" on branding
I worked at King Soopers during those cooperation days between Ralphs and King Soopers. It was an amazing exchange with 2 outstanding operators (best practices, out of the box thinking, etc.). Has King Soopers really deteriorated that bad? I would never think that possible. The BRAND was as powerfu...

Re: New Jersey Ban On Paper Bags, Single Use Plastic Bags, & Plastic Food Containers
I never said I was opposed to letting customers take boxes if the stores want to give them out. I'm only saying that we can't rely on this method because there won't be enough boxes for everyone. And I for one don't like taking them from grocery stores because food residue is often left in the boxe...

Re: Berkeley Bans Junk Food At Checkouts
Some stores have tried things like this. 20 years ago some stores had "no candy" lanes. Raleys has tried to re-configure some of its checkstands to have only "healthy" snacks (you can still find the old unhealthy stuff). Problem with this is the city is telling you what you can m...

Re: Rite Aid Logo Change
The logo is kind of growing on me. I think the darker blue for the name helped.
I always kind of liked the shield though- it seemed unique. The first time I saw the shield though, I thought it looked pretty weird. But it is definitely a logo.

Re: Kroger "big announcement coming" on branding
I don't think that would be the case with King Soopers! There would be a serious and deleterious effect in rebranding. Something is just not right with Kroger recently (10 years or more?). Even the Fred Meyer things is strange. I remember getting general merchandise from the Fred Meyers D.C. that w...

Re: WinCo moving into former Kmart in Ontario, Oregon
The F4L in Bend has skewed a little away from the low price warehouse type of pricing and merchandising and more toward a natural/organic bend at lower prices for those items. Smart niche. Being adjacent the only Trader Joe's for hundreds of miles (and usually the entrance point into the community ...

Re: New Jersey Ban On Paper Bags, Single Use Plastic Bags, & Plastic Food Containers
Again- think the boxes are a very viable option. The sanitation concern with reusable bags does not exist since the boxes are dispensed by the store. There is no cost involved to the store since the boxes come with the items that are shipped into the store. The boxes are more likely to be a source ...
